Getting rid of 9 and Fox's first and last rights is pretty significant. Slowly we are cutting them out of the game. Excellent payout, 20 fixed rounds is also pretty good. We aren't't really much worse off than we were with existing broadcast schedules. Possible new teams might mean an extra game for FTA.

It's really not bad. The first and last rights thing makes the lack of broadcast scheduling improvement worth it I reckon.

Pay TV has only ~35% penetration in this country, the more chances that people have to see their team on TV the better.

More FTA games grow more fans.

The Contra part of the deal is what appeals to the casual fan.

How many of you have watched 7mate and been bombarded by GWs and swans adds. The same will happen with channel 9 there will more information about match days and who is playing.

This will inturn grow audiences and awareness of games, both live at the ground and on television.

Today we were delivered the same shit that the majority of the people have been whinging about for years. Nothing has changed, all we did was get more money from it.
The game sold out and f**ked us all over and were supposed to "move on" as you put it.

What a disgusting day to be a fan of rugby league. To have people who have been whinging so long about the same shit over and over again to kingdom come to just roll over when more money is thrown at the game.
What does that say about us as people.

There is a plan outside of this deal you idiot. Its a 10 to 15 year plan. Thats never existed before. No ones happy that 9 are still around, but the merkins are paying through the nose for the game. If they don't maximise that product to their advantage then they are almost as stupid as you.

Go sit in the corner, suck your thumb and think of how stupid you really are.

Nine's commentary and general coverage has been so dreadful this year that I honestly thought it was out of spite at the realisation that they had lost the rights.

Now we find out we have another FIVE YEARS of it.

At this stage I think the money is more important mate.

Funding grass roots
Junior Development & Academies
Capital works projects
Expansion
Marketing, overhauling our image
Human capital (better lawyers, accountants, financial advisers, marketing people etc)
Increased grants to clubs
More players lured at decisive stages in development to league, potentially leading to higher quality play and thus a higher quality product overall

etc
etc
etc

The list is endless.

Not overly important in the short term but obviously good to have that freedom in 5 years.

What the game does between now and then is going to be huge.

Point proven. I'm not ecstatic about the points you've harped on about either but I've focused on where we've improved from last time rather than act like the sky is falling.

Other positives from my POV are the guarantee that City v Country continues for the duration of the deal and the possibility that they will show NSW Cup on occasion as the lead in.

The tieing of the Queensland Cup to the 9 rights does put a kaibosh on the National reserve Grade comp though one would think

Spot on and it's a point that some people here have either forgot about or just don't care about. How the f**k are you meant to grow the game in Melbourne when absolutely nothing has changed in regards to the broadcasting of the games down here? Oh that's right, we have the extra money now so that'll solve everything..........
