Does anyone know how the Warriors v broncos rated? Tvtonight has saturday up but not the subscription tv section.

Would have won the night on pay tv for sure, but i am interested to see by how much. On that could the NRL in a fixed schedule entice Fox to pay more if they got the Broncos on more often?

335k

saw Kent on the Back Page

Anderson said to him the AFL is rating well so Fox would be happy

Kent replied saying it might be rating well but hasn't delivered on subscription numbers

doesn't make much sense imo. AFL ratings on STV would only go up if more AFL supporters subscribed

moot point anyway

no NRL and Fox lose subscribers. NRL just has to tell them they couldn't give two f**ks about the AFL as that's Foxtels prob

they'll have bigger probs if they give all rights to FTA which they have threatned to do if Fox don't pay up

and Kent is basing all this on about 4 months worth of AFL. they've bought it for 5 years and it will grow

whoever is feeding Kent his info seems to expect us to swallow some bullshit story that 100,000 AFL supporters were supposed to sign up in that time and because they didn't the NRL will have to get less

Well if two FTA stations want to pay $75-80 million each and Fox only offers $90-100million a year I'd tell Fox to stick it and let them survive 5 years without NRL, we'll soon see where they want to spend their money in the 2017-18 NRL/AFL contract negotiations!

With $10mill naming rights
$20mill Internet rights
$15mill gaming rights
$15mill NZ rights
savings from the ARLC running the game + $150-160 million FTA the games income would still be up by $50mill+ a year.

the ARLC can survive without Fox's money of they can get two FTA interested. The coverage, sponsor benefits and viewer numbers would be worth taking a $10-20mill a year hot imo.

Not going to debate dollar figures but you need to get 2 networks to agree to it and see the benefits.

Even 1 year without Foxtel is enough to make a big impact.

People seem to think that Foxtel putting in last bid means that the NRL has to go with it. If the NRL gets better value elsewhere - not just in dollars but coverage etc - then they can choose their own broadcasters. They can dump 9 & Foxtel and go for less dollars if they want.

Would 10 be interested in picking up Foxtel current allocation of games? Yep.

Would 9 want to share their F2A rights with 10? Remains to be seen.

All part of the fun!

Will be interesting for Fox. If there is 4 games on FTA this could be a tipping poin for motivation for RL subscriptions. At the moment with just 3 games on FTA and 5 on Fox it is worth having Fox as they have the majority of games. If it goes to 4 and 4 I can see many people not subscribing as 4 games a weekend is enough for most viewing pleasures. This is where the 9th game could be important in tipping the majority of exclusive games back to Fox with a 4-5 split. Fox need live simucast regardless this deal and will need to up their offer to cover that at a minimum.

I'm still tipping
$400mill FTA (hopefully Ch10) 4 live games and SOO/Rep games
$500mill Fox 5 exclusive games after expansion and simucast all live
$100mill Telstra
$75mill NZ

My understading is that Fox have the first and last rights to pay television rights.... not those 5 games..... So their F&LR are only relevent if the ARLC want to sell games to pay television, if we sell entirely to FTA then fox have nothing, we can let their calls go through to voicemail.

Fox paid 600m for AFL in a bid to increase subscriptions, i think from memory they make their money back if 100k people sign up or something.... If just that increase margin is worth 600m, what would be the cost of losing the NRL?

In this economy, with everyone belt tightening, I think you would have hundreds of thousands of men saying to their wives that Fox isnt worth it now that their are 8 games on free to air live, and the only shit on foxtel is wife swapping junkyard collecting ice road alligator hunting gypsie wedding crashing fashion designing weight losing makeover shows....

The cost of losing the NRL would be huge. It was the driving force behind Foxtel's subscription drives in NSW and Qld from the day they first won the rights. If they lose the NRL, mine will be cut off the day after the H & A season finishes this year. And if they win but simulcast all matches with FTA, it'll be gone as well.

Exactly EA I'll get rid of fox in a heartbeat if they don't have the NRL

Same here, the only other reason I have Austar is for the NFL, but with the NFL game pass available, I will happily purchase that and flick pay tv in a heart beat. These geniuss at Fox need to get it through their head that it will be a bloodbath for them if they lose the rights to the NRL.

Why do these f**kwits get obsessed over me? X-man was at the point of suicide. What empty little lives they lead.

Do they still think they're having conversations with me on Talking Footy? f**king idiots!

It does seem kinda odd that they're casting stones at the good folk of LU whilst they have a dedicated thread to talk down the next nrl broadcasting rights contract on an AFL site.
Why does it bother them so much what the nrl gets? They got their $1.25 billion ffs.
I think most nrl fans just want the game not to be undersold this time around, if that means it gets $1.25+ billion so be it.

I love my NFL game pass.

I think Fox will have some games one way or another, either by simulcasting with 9 or 10 or by buying some games off of 7. So I think FTA vs. Pay tv is a red herring.

If all games were on fta I would can Foxtel instantly after this season and I have had it since the first year it started. But I doubt that this would ever really happen seeing that the government, in its corrupt wisdom, has allowed for a ridiculous amount of cross ownership to happen. There should be none.

That is why I keep asking Docbrown to give us in his learnered and wise estimate, what chance is there really of all 8 games being on fta?

Yes you are right with the tipping point thing. LEK did a CBA scenario on this.

My understading is that Fox have the first and last rights to pay television rights.... not those 5 games....

Yes that is correct but you need to keep in mind though that the people who run 7 & 10 also on portions of Foxtel...

Will they be willing to boost one business at the expense of another? Probably not.

The only way the scenario can unfold is if the two network are bidding for games unaware that the other bidders are F2A networks only and unaware that the final package will be a 100% F2A arrangement.

So wait, a FTA network beating Fox's offer means that Fox will go blind? How effective were the F&L rights then!!! So, we only have to be worried about 9's F&L rights, right?

No, sorry need to clear here.

In both cases a 'LAST' right means that they can see all rival offers for their current game Quota (or conflicting parts thereof) and make a counter deal if they so choose.

Fox does not go "blind" because it does not have a mechanism to have the 'LAST' right broken during the counter-negotiation period (after first offers i.e. from now onwards). 9 can g blind though because they mechanism is in place i.e 20%.

Nor does either 'LAST' offer have to be accepted. The NRL can reject them if they feel they get better 'terms' elsewhere.

You mean games aren't blacked out for you like ones shown on Sky Sports in the UK are?:x

No, Ive always been able to watch any match that I want to. Last season was my 1st season with gamepass and I must say it is my favourite tv content purchase. If i decide to sleep in, or the game is on when I'm at work just watch it when I get up or home. Connect my laptop to the television and a beautiful full screen picture.
