Having never seen that movie, I'll instead opt to recreate Braveheart. If Mel can do it, so can I.

I've been Beeker on the Road for the past 2 months. I've got money for at least 2 more if I so choose, but I am getting antsy to do something more. The original plan was for Mis to meet up with me in Chang Mai and he and I run amok and write. Mis has commitments to go to the UK and likely won't escape China until 2015. I can teach, write, travel or head back to Canada.

Sometimes having too many options is a problem. I honestly am unsure what to do, where to go after Thailand in the next day or two.

Suggestions merkins?

Why in f**k would you go back to Canada?

I'm out of China in September, but think the Philippines will pip Thailand as my chosen writing/bludging venue.

Canada is an option, the least desirable one. I am waiting on hearing back from that tour operator, as well.

I may just set up shop in Chang Mai, SE Asia offers up more variety than the Philippines.

International road trips upcoming for me n' Mis!

The Philippines is in SE Asia, but I see your point. Much easier to access Laos, Vietnam, Burma, Cambodia, and Malaysia from where you are.

What areas are you visiting while over there?

I'm off to America in July for an extended period of time.

If you're planning a long term stay in Chiang Mai, I'd suggest an exit plan. The Violence is starting to move out of the capital and absolutely no one is interested in backing down. I drink with an old hand who was there when the Thammasat massacre happened in the 1970's and he says all signs point to something far worse this time around.

Why not try Penang for a short term stay? It's not majorly expensive if you steer clear of too much booze and most Commonwealth citizens are entitled to a three month stay on arrival.

Got three weeks off in March. Since Immigration are tards in Indonesia, I'm stuck doing domestic. Decided on the Karimunjawa Islands north of Java for a fair portion of it. They have beer, so that'll do me.

It's not Thailand, it's all the options and diversity offered up by SE Asia.
I'm not sure the Philippines can match that, since, well, I have yet to visit there.

Got all my usa digs booked. Hostel in west Hollywood, cheap hotel five mins away from the Opry and the Hall of Fame in Nashville, a hella expensive hotel in the north river neighborhood of Chicago and a hostel in Madison, Wisconsin. Plus the festival I'm going to is at a camping ground about an hour north of there and surrounded by forrests and lakes. Boom!
