Out of all the hype and rumours surrounding our proposed TV rights deal, what the bookies have proposed is a genuine true reflection of what the game is expected to get. They have no other motive besides making money from bets.
During the last rights negotiations, Nine put an offer on the table and gave the NRL only a few days to either accept it or it would be withdrawn.
Im assuming this wont happen this time.
Gallop has already said that he will be going to all players in the market.
Given we have 8 games a weekend and the AFL has 9 we should expect a slightly lower deal unless we pump up the $s for SOO and International Football.
That is why those extra parts (SOO and International Football) should be sold separately.
we have more games in the season AFAIK
plus Origin
the NRL signed with 9 a year earlier than they needed to last time
And the view from that market is that there is a better than evens chance that the number will be less than $1b.
Didnt they think it was better to get in first before the AFL?
Great thinking there...
same market had the AFL at less then a billion too .... ;-)
Because we're contractually obliged under the first and last rights agreement to give them that time? If we want yet another court case to delay the process even further then by all means let's not bother waiting for the three months. Otherwise, we just suck it up and get on with the process. We have to give them the time but nothing says we have to accept their finalised "first" offer and we probably won't.so why bother with 3 months of exclusive negotiations if it will just go to the open market anyway?
http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...the-quest-for-progression-20110203-1afiv.htmlNine's free-to-air contract and Fox Sports's pay-TV deal conclude at the end of next year, and both have 90-day time frames to make a first offer and an opportunity to equal a rival bidder with a final offer, although Nine's right is cancelled if a rival bid exceeds it by 20 per cent.

Fox Sports has first refusal on rights until 2022, while Nine has a similar privilege for 10 years

Correct me if I am wrong, but the AFL negotiated their deal with Foxtel whilst the NRL will negotiate with Fox Sports. This is one of the reasons why there is a dedicated channel and why they paid such a high amount for the rights
