With regard to the 120% rival bid removing first and last rights, will the rival bidders have knowledge of Nine's bid, or would that be confidential?

Surely you would have to know what the opposition is bidding. The interesting question is, would it be better for the game if they knew or not? If it's better that they do know then surely the commission will ensure they do.

These pm posts are starting to wear thin.

Well I do apologise, I have been quite busy of late but I'm getting to it. At this time in the negotiations I do not wish to upset the applecart but I have been told today that all 3 F2A networks are pretty much aware of each other's plans so I might just be overtly cautious.

There are however things going on at the moment that have the potential to destabilise an entire network.

it's not you it's the people ignoring your request and posting and asking for a pm instead of pm'ing you and asking

There would have to be a catch to Channel 10 wanting all 8 games. I would bet that the 3 games covered by the anti-siphoning list would live on 10, and the other 5 would be fox feeds (as someone had speculated before here) on a 30 minute or more delay on ONE. I think most of us can deal with advertisements, thats not incentive alone to stick with a foxtel subscription.... The games will be spoiled by more than adverts...

The only concern about 10 is how closely in bed with Fox they are. 10 won;t do anything that damages Fox so theymay not be offering the best deal for NRl in terms of what a FTA could deliver. We might be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire! I agree that for Fox to have any value out of the deal they would need enough content and exclusivity to maintain their subscription rates from NRL fans. That means live games and every game, with FTA not showing them all live imo.

So 3 FTA networks all pushing hard for the rights, throw in Fox who IMO can't afford to have no RL and it is far different than last time when Nein were pretty much handed the rights on a platter. Looks like we may finally get what we deserve :)

And thanks for the PM Doc much appreciated, i know everyone appreciated all the info you provide on here.

It's not like Foxtel get nothing out of the arrangement. After expansion Foxtel will get another 4 live commercial free games. Some people like Foxtel for the convenience of ad free television. Foxtel would effectively be like the "premium service" under this arrangement. There's a new thing at play here and that's the NBN. Foxtel have got a 10 year conversion plan to shift 50% of Australian viewers to their internet based services. Having every game live on devices like T-Box is very important to this strategy, despite what people have been lead to believe.

Agree but it is only really valuable if they have enough exclusive content to convince people to fork out $50+ a month for games they otherwise wouldn't be able to see. For most on here the feedback seems to be that if 5 out of 9 games were on FTA live nationally they would drop Fox. You were suggesting 10 wanted all 8 games on FTA, that would not be allowed imo as it would cause massive subscription drop off to Fox. I hate adds but I wouldn't pay Fox subscription to watch a game without them if all games were on FTA live or near to.

Now if Fox had a RL channel with every NRL game live, every SL, CC and CC1 game live, NSW/Q'land cup, French Rl plus all internationals from around the world and back catalogue of classic club and test matches I would be very tempted to keep forking out my $100 a month!

But surely Fox can't risk losing viewers before they are converted. They can't possibly be comfortable with FTA coverage improving so drastically in comparison to what they have to offer. Continuing with foxtel or deciding to join would be 50/50 for so many people. I think 8 games on FTA would tip alot of people to be honest.

Although it would be awesome to show sponsors that every game is on FTA, watch that corporate $ swing back from the AFL. (pm me pls doc, sorry guys)

Agreed my tip is:

Friday nights x2, Sunday x2 FTA, ch 10 simucast on Fox
Saturday x3 exclusive Fox
Sundayx1 exclusive Fox
Mondayx1 exclusive Fox
Tests and SOO Ch10 simucast Fox

Ch10 $400mill
Fox $600mill
Telstra $100mill

Whether or not 10 & Foxtel get what they want that's a totally different story, what's important is the competition in the marketplace. I can assure that Foxtel is behind this move, that it has been in the works for quite some time and it is well thought out. I'm not sure if you recall but I mentioned to you that this is going to be bankrolled and offset by an ad revenue sharing scheme.

At the moment the NRL annual audience is approximately around 120 million a season give or take. This proposal is set up to boost that to something in excess of 200 million by 2017.

I don't know if most of you fully funderstand the subsequent effects of this.

Would the split advertising arrangements extend to listed games such as Origin and Finals? I can understand how this arrangement could give Fox access to revenue that would otherwise have been off the cards for them if it did extend to those games....

So the Ten broadcast of a regular unlisted game would contain the adverts, the Fox one wouldnt, and Fox would take half (or whatever %) of the ad money from the Ten broadcast for giving Ten the privilege of using their feed. Am I near the mark?
