I doubt that it's that simple.

Your opinion of him can only have been based on his time at the head of the NRL, and he was a News puppet the whole time. You have to take into account that he no longer works for them and its now in his best interest to get every $ he can for his employers. And he won't be able to sign off on the new deal without the IC's rubber stamp.

You can hate the bloke all you like, but if the new deal comes up at $1 billion +, he'll have done his job and so will the IC.
Ah, now that's simplistsic. This magic $1b mark doesn't mean he's done the job well. Since the IC has taken over has Gallop taken Channel Nine to task over their scheduling of the game in Melbourne?

Nope, he's still showing no backbone as far as that goes. As I said I still have reservations about the bloke.

If we get even a billion on the dot for the TV rights, why would anyone think that's a poor job?

AFL didn't even get that and that's the only yardstick we have.

I didn't say it was a poor job, I said that it doesn't mean he has done a good job. But not acting on the Nein issue, now there's a yardstick for ya.

Gallop carries plenty of baggage, don’t think anyone disputes that. If this deal is anywhere near what we are all hoping it will be though, I’ll forgive him and move on to a brave new world of free to air access for all games. Ah just think about how glorious that would be.

Yep, he's knocked over the first hurdle which doesn't inspire confidence and the way Foxtel is treating it at the moment as against their incessant plugging of the Mexican game needs to be brought up with them.

He needs a big win to get going.

Gallop is Gallop, I don't believe for a minute we will suddenly see a strong leader emerge just because he doesn't have a News shackle on him. TBH most good CEO's I have met would have walked a long time ago if there ability to lead a business was so impaired by a board. The fact he has been happy to be News's b1tch says alot imo.

Having said that he will have very little influence on the TV deal imo. The AFL have set the bar, it is now up to the ARLC to match or beat it. If they don't it will be their first big test and first failure. If they do then we should all swing from the rooftops at the great era for RL that is about to happen!

Dean Ritchie is slowly finding out what we already know from a far more knowledgable source on these forums.

The fact he is being allowed to run the story is indeed cause for excitement.

If this is the truth, it will be both a first for Ritchie and a great thing for the game.

Ten need it. They're shit and always have been.

Whats that wanker Quartermain and his pencil necked little ferrett mate Anthony Hudson up to these days now that Ten don't do the AFL?

Polishing knobs at AFL HQ?

They said that Lachlan Murdoch and his wife were at the NRL season launch - wonder if anyone from nine was too....

Looking at the stats, when a Q'land team is playing on a Friday night the audience in Brisbane goes up 100-150k compared to when two NSW teams are playing. When it is two Q'land teams playing they go up 200-250k. I can see why the TV execs want to see another Q'land team join the comp.

It makes sense as it opens up so many more scheduling options. Plus I'd love to be able to watch someone other than the Broncos on Friday night.

I like seeing Broncos games on Friday night. It just seems natural.

And yes there should be another Brisbane team to go with the new Perth team in 2015.
