That article says -

The Sunday Mail can today reveal details of the battle for Brisbane's west and the bold business plan that has the Western Corridor's NRL bid primed for acceptance, including team name, jersey design and future stadium.

Am I mistaken, but is the team name and jersey then not mentioned in the article at all?

R&B Bears said it's not on the webpage but in the paper. Apparently it's called 'Jagera' after the Aboriginal name for the region.
That neatly avoids the naming conundrum discussed on the expansion forum (specific names that locals like but have limited wider appeal such as Ipswich, vs more general names like "South Queensland")

Jagera Jets.

They could very well be onto a winner.

Well you'd have to think that they'd be going for the alliteration.

My only question is Jagera a term for the region in common use? Everyone knows where Ipswich, Brisbane and South Queensland are. Apart from the Aboriginal community, how well known is it?

I don't mind it. It's better than Brisbane Bombers, that's for sure.

No indigenous terms, apart from Murri (which is generic anyway), are really in common use in SE Qld. Jagera is more a language group/clan name rather than a specific area though.

It's an approach I like, far better than the horrendous Bombers. Differentiation from the Broncos was always the key and this fits with that nicely.

And I suppose we'll have one of these new-fangled "Welcome to Country" things everytime they play a home game?

Yeah, it is. Seems to be something they've just thought, of or have they been doing it since the dreamtime?

I just had a thought (nightmare) - What happens in this scenario:

Nine win the rights, we get a good deal..... Then in the first year, after the NRL go on a massive shopping spree (salary cap, commitment to Perth Ipswich) Nine gets shut down by the equity partners..... Ten/Seven would pick up the scraps for nothing....

The NRL need to make sure Nine don't get the rights, it's like giving the rights to Greece.....

Good point.

The Australian government will not allow any commercial network to shut down. Ever.

And as long as that is their policy, the NRL will still be paid according to the nature of the signed contract or fight it to death in a bloody court battle which would be heavily in their favour.

I wouldn't mind that, in the end a new equity group is going to buy 9 and have to honour the contract and at best the NRL could end up owning a piece of a network.

I would think the NRL would do their due diligence and accept the bid that looks the best over how many years the TV deal goes to. I can't imagine them taking a deal if things looked that dire at 9.

Lovin sunday night footy. Another bargaining chip on the table for the NRL.

I would love to see SNF week in week out, with the odd MNF game. Free up a slot for more afternoon footy which is definitly needed IMO

i always thought the poll should have an "anyone but 9" option.

regarding Sunday nights, the only way it can work is if they ditch Monday night. i guess when they're talking about $1b, they'll do whatever the broadcasters tell them - but i'd hate to see another timeslot that's rubbish for people who actually go to games.
