Who ever gets it must allocate friday/saturday/sunday/monday nights equally amongst all 16 teams as after all its a 16 team comp- No Preferential treatment like what the Broncos are getting in playing the majority of their matches whether home or away on a friday night as this significant boosts their profile and ability to attract sponsors/sell merchandise and memberships etc which is detrimental to other teams/clubs and to the game in general. It also gives them an unfair advantage on the field too by having 7 days between games allowing for a greater preparation period and ability of having players whose injuries would have kept them out of the game if it was a 4 or 5 day turnaround between games instead of 7 days.

Ten are restructuring. They were always a break even prop at best.

Murdoch is clearing the decks and Packer is cashed up to the back teeth.

f**k Nine.

This is all a good sign that the pressure is getting to 9. This is going to be a drag em out bare knuckle fight to the death and the loser will be relegated to 3rd place for the next five years.

I think that this current tv rights negotiations, unlike any previous rights negotiations for RL post Super League and the TV rights deal the AFL just did has the power to definitively create winners and losers in terms of TV networks in Australia. What is at stake for 7 is getting a ratings edge in the Northern States, like the AFL has done for them in the southern states. What is at stake for 9 and 10 is avoiding being #3 in the ratings for the next five years. And what's at stake for Foxtel is keeping its subscriber base in NSW and Queensland that as carried them for so long.

Reading about the AFL rights negotiations, I think they did everything right. They forced 7 to pay overs, got a dedicated channel on Fox, and got a bigger payday than anyone expected. But I had the feeling there was something missing from that negotiations. Thinking it over, I realized that the AFL did not have the power of life or death over any tv network that the ARLC has. The fact that a high rated tv property has just come up on the marketplace when 2 of the 3 networks are struggling is a major coup for the ARLC. For that reason, I think one network is going to pay overs, one network is going to lose, and rugby league is going to get a huge pay day, one that has been coming since the Super League war. I know nothing is set is stone and anything can happen, but there is a chance that the NRL will end up as big winners.

f**k i love reading this thread. well done to all involved, particularly the doc. it's great to see many more footy fans are right on to this issue compared to last time.

And the arlc know that people are watching everything very closely.

If you have fox you probably don't care what FTA network secures the rights. I really don't care who gets them, but what I care about is the cost, and how much money goes back into the game
And not just the NRL clubs.

$1B would be great, especially if fox can simulcast all matches.

Haha 206 Comments - Not one comment praising Nine.... Someone needs to print it and mail it to Mr Browne.

That cumrag needs to know what the public think.

I can't post links yet, but Friday night in Melbourne on GO! they are playing 'Gremlins' and 'Zombie Strippers'..... NRL is on 11.30pm main channel.

"it's about the relationship and building the brand of rugby league." - By showing Zombie Strippers on one of your channels before showing League.

Browsing through that dribble on Browne I see that, amongst other things, he is an AFL life member. We don't want 9 anywhere near league.

He will say what he needs to say to have the appearance of competing with what the others are offering.

But ultimately they've burned rugby league fans one too many times for any one to buy it.

if there were 9 fans i doubt they got posted

they only seem to let through what suits them so it's always hard to know if it'sall bad
