Yeah prob only 10 will do it. In Syd/Bris 10 & 1. The rest just 1. They are rating 2% and need new programs for 1. Given they pay for the rights and that's it. They can save on royalities & improve the ratings.

Look at the Gem ratings for the current Channel 9 NRL slots.

Showing NRL in Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth is on par & would exceed what they get already.

I think Nine already showed their hand on this during the finals when they wouldn't show the Storm games on Gem/Go.

I know people will say it's paranoia but 9 obviously have an agenda about this. The ratings for the programs on the second channels are just so bad nothing could rate worse. There is no doubt that some decent programming like the NRL could easily beat them. In fact i have no doubt that the NRL could rate better in Perth and Melbourne than the usual sh*t 9 has on the main channel.

However i know that's unrealistic and i will settle for the game being shown on secondary channels where there is no doubt we would rate better.

The worst part is they have already paid for the NRL and would save money on putting different content on in those timeslots.

There is no way it is just incompetence. Even a monkey could recognise how bad that decision is. There is no way the people in charge can't see this.

I mean storm games have rated in the hundreds of thousands for regular season games and you're telling me we can't get shown on secondary channels which are barely cracking 5 digits?

So when December 31st, 2013 rolls around, and the analogue signal is turned off nationwide, will there be "primary" and "secondary" channels?

Since everyone will be on digital and have access to all 16 channels, why can't all FTA sports be broadcast on GEM, One or 7Mate exclusively and in HD?

one would think by then the main channel will be HD

anyone who doesn't have a HD TV in 2014 needs shooting

i think 80% do now

What's the real reason, in your opinion?

There's massive internal disagreements in management.

Not only is there a Sydney-Melbourne rivalry but there are other factions within those.

People are putting their personal outside interests ahead of the company's.

Would those personal interests be something like a high up CH 9 exec being in charge of the biggest club in a rival sport & making sure the NRL rarely got shown at a decent time in Southern states as it might eat into the viewing audience of the sport that he loves?

That.

And things like feeding gossip to a Telecrap hack because they want to get their colleagues fired.

9 won't do anything that upsets the AFL

This.

But when you get in touch with them all they say is it doesn't rate!
When its been proven it does if fans get more than 2 days notice that a game's on or when its shown on a regular basis.

Maybe it's too early & I'm missing the point, but I'm intrigued by this one. Can you give an example ? I realise that rag is full of junk, but not sure what you're referring to.

You only have to look at channel 9s fall in the ratings to see it is being poorly run.

Yeah but even when its just a completely last minute decision it is still guaranteed to outrate the garbage on their secondary channels.

Things like sending photos of them smashed at the Christmas party, making rumours that they're about to be fired etc

That kind of petty nonsense.

Nine will do everything they possibly can to be able to walk into the TV rights negotiations and say (disingenuously) that NRL doesn't rate outside of NSW and QLD. There's no way they're going to help us grow the game (and thus the price of the broadcast rights) unless they're contractually obligated to. I'm sure the next deal, whoever it is with, will mandate live games into Melbourne and possibly Adelaide and Perth. The last deal was a weak mess. This one won't be.

Don't ask me why, but I just have a gut feeling our next rights deal is gonna be a massive win for the game.
