I'm sure if there were a problem at Parra, Fitzy would be the first to let us know

No clubs worth going to in Adelaide.

The only good about Parra Leagues is the Chinese restaurant which is quality.... other than that it is a hole. The place needs a major overhaul. The place has aged just like Fitzy has.

I'll repeat, go to Canterbury Leagues or Panthers. Now they are great set ups!!!

i agree, the setups are excellent. maybe we should look at expanding the leagues club.

If Parra had unrestricted access to their land I'm sure they would be much bigger..

Unfortunately our Club is Hamstrung by the Proximity to housing.. and also via things such as Friends of Parramatta Park.. Heritage Listings.. the Stadium Trust and Parramatta River...

Absolutely.

As I've said in another thread - we can't expand outwards and so must expand upwards and below ground. Without this, our floorspace is severely limited and thus our ability to provide variety (like Panthers) is basically shot down.

3P or the Incumbents - neither can fix the situation or remove the blocks that are in our way.

It sucks.

Apart from $$$$$

Sadly the same organisations would be a Roadblock to Parra ever being able to Buy the Stadium :( Damn Crown Land..

Such a Pity the school buildings over the road are heritage listed.. would have been interesting to see how many (if any) approaches the leagues club made about that land when it was available.

Just a few questions. Is it possible and or feasible to move the club to a better and bigger location? Has anyone here got enough knowledge to make a case for such a massive decision to take place? Could we hold on to the current leagues club, and use it to acquire a more suitable premises?

Depends really..... on where you would move it to. So many licensed clubs in the immediate area that just moving it may not necessarily mean it would increase its revenue.....

Well... I'm just taking a wild guess..

But..

I dare say the first issue would be $$$$ and would rely on whether or not an existing structure was readily available or if a new one would need to be built.

I doubt a big move would be feasible considering a move of such magnitude would take years to plan.

Nothing could happen until Goverment/Council approval is given... Then you would need to allow time for modifications &/or construction - all of which would need to take place just to have it in a position to be ready to occupy.

In the meantime the clock ticks by and the club would (presumably) sit on it's hands and would be reluctant to make any improvements to the existing facility due to the pending new facility.

I have read all your comments with great interest, you are well informed and make some great points. I cannot agree on your first post saying the club is still well run, as it is not and it is run down and desperately needs attention. "Cant" is not in my vocabulary, there are aways an alternative to a present situation, and a carefully thought out process for change attracts positive reaction, not negative detraction. This club will change dramatically, but not without all of your imput.

In regards to location, what about right in the heart of the business and entertainment district, something like Easts Leagues. They are not a massive club by any stretch, but are profitable due to being where the people are and they cater to both the pokies entertainment.

We should at the very least be doing a deal with Westfields for a Parra shopfront closer to town, to sell merchandise and tickets and memberships etc (maybe in return for some contra sponsorship if money is an issue).

We should also be looking at doing a deal with the Council in relation to its Civic Place re-development... getting an Eels shop front space there facing Church St Mall would be ideal. The Council surely realise the economic ebenfit of having a top flite footy team, and people coming into the city to use the stadium (and the city's businesses before and afterwards). Or they need to be reminded of how businesses and the whole area came alive in ealry 80s when Parra were winning.

Most other clubs with presences out of their main city centre have shopfronts where the action is as well, and don't wait for people to come to them. I've seen the Souths one just off the main street of Redfern (seeing Redfern Oval and the Leagues Club are tucked away at the back of the suburb), with a big memberships flag out the front. I've seen the Newtown Jets stall every weekend (during the off-season too) in the heart of King Street (seeing as Henson and their clubhouse are miles away).

Yep, Roosters have their club in Bondi Junction (as mentioned by Ram) yet have a apparel shop called Game Day one street away in Oxford Street mall just to get the passing shopping trade.

Okay, so it is possible, Any thing is possible. As to feasibility, I guess that is what feasibility studies are for. I am sure there are people with enough knowledge to make the case for such a change, but I think we are talking about massive amount of money to capitalise on it. Not just purchasing a high priced piece of Church street, but then either gutting the building or completely knocking it several buildings and building a completely new club.

If you want to go for right in the heart of Parramatta, there are two prime areas to consider. The First is the old David Jones? Building just as you come off from over the Bridge towards Parramatta. There is paid Parking behind the facility, it is quite large, and has a nice exterior for the club to then gut completely and build the required internals. I would personally think that would be the best place.

Next would be the corner of Church and Philip Street, backing towards Erby Pl. But seeing as that is not one building it would require a great deal more work.

Either option has us I think purchasing a Car Park facility directly behind the club, which while a revenue stream could make parking quite difficult at the club. We might have to think about a validation scheme.

Could we use the old club and all our properties for capital, sure, but you would want to hope and pray that beyond the money the club might make, that the Eels wouldn't require a cent and we would be able to pay back that sort of expense in a relatively short time frame.
