The Wire

The Wire is so well written, Sopranos doesn't even come close in terms of scripts or feel IMO.

Agreed, I watched The Sopranos after I watched The Wire and I felt let down by the hype.

I prefer season 1 of Boardwalk Empire over any season of The Sopranos.

I feel the same about The Shield, it just pales in comparison to The Wire.

absolutely brilliant show
absolutely brilliant characters.. and the show is one big character study
i love it.

david simon pull no punches, everybody has their good and bad points. he doesn't shy away from the controversy.

now compare it to csi miami or any other bruckheimer show

2 was my least favourite because it went off track and i didnt care much for some of the main characters in that season.

Been plowing through this during the Uni holidays. So far have finished 4 seasons. I've never had a TV show that constantly destroys me like this one does. It's so intense.

*spoilers*

Not sure how others feel about String, but he was my fav and his death floored me. Took me days to get over it. Part of me almost wants to not watch Season 5. It's easily one of the favourite shows ever, but man it's so dark lol.

As for favourite seasons (excluding 5 which I've yet to watch), I'd have to go with 3 as well, although String being my favourite character probably explains that since that was his season.

Just rewatched the Season 4 finale, man that was sad.

*spoilers*

Not that long ago that Bodie was a young pup who had dreams about being the chess piece that got to the other side. At least his death was good, standing up to Marlo's boys rather than going quietly into a vacant.

It's funny that at the start of the season, of the 4 boys, Namond was probably the one I least cared about and he's the one that gets saved. Poor Randy.

Started hating Stringer in season 2 after he had D'angelo killed and he just didn't seem like he belonged in the leadership role of the crew. Was a great lieutenant and adviser but because of the way he treated it strictly like a business, led to the rise of Marlo and downfall of their organisaiton. Was kinda sad the way him and Avon both set each other up, when they were on the balcony reminising about their younger days, both knowing it would prob be the last time they'd be together.

And Bodie was one of my favourite, at least he went out like a true soldier lol.

Haha trust me I felt that same way right after that. The fact that he was also messing around with Dee's girl while he was in prison didn't help. Hated on him for Wallace's death as well.

I guess I just came around on him based on how he was trying to change the game. In essence, him and Bunny were trying to do the same thing in Season 3, albeit via different ways and obviously with different motives. Not to mention that I always loved his character, so I was probably always going to come around.

Yeah with hindsight, that balcony bit is creepy. Great scene. Bodie really grew on me as the series went along. His death was fitting.

I liked Stringer at the start, but over time I definitely swayed to Avon's side. Avon accepted his limitations and didn't try to move beyond them, which I see as the way to do it. Trying to go legit will only draw the heat.

Probably prefer breaking bad though. Close call.

Breaking bad probably uses a bit more humour and hasnt been as gritty. just watched the first epsiode of the new season of breaking abd, interested to where they take it.

Just rewatched the Season 4 finale, man that was sad.

Poor Randy.

yeah that sucks what happens. what is good about the wire is they didnt make everyone live happily ever after. people you thought would make it got whacked, those you thought would die end up surviving...

whislt i thought season 4 was interesting cos of the kids, it really did move away from what the show was about, i got to the end of s4 and sort of thought "what was that all about", it was kind of a detour. I thought s5 jumped the shark so f**king badly it wasnt funny. i like some of the stuff that happened, but f**k me that was so implausible

i liked Omar's character, esepcially when he's in that dressing gown going to the show to get cereal

Snoop was f**kin cool (she got arrested last year for drugs i think), I like hwhen they shot the nail gun near her and she shits herself and yells "be cool man, be cool"

Surprised to see so much love for 3.

3 was recognized as the weakest season before 5.

5 is the weakest because its sort of a wrap up in many respects

4 is the best, i would vote carcetti to be mayor, wouldnt you?!?!? :D

3 has that fabulous ending montage in the finale which just about takes you to that higher place - wherever that is

2 is difficult to watch because the dialogue was completely idiomatic, but it does have sherriff andy bellefluer from true blood in it :)

if you just watched season 1 its like reading the prologue for a book without actually meeting any of the actual characters... ie pointless . To get through season 1 and 2 is a chore but seasons 3 and 4 are the payoff for the beginning, you wouldnt understand what was going on otherwise if you didnt watch seasons 1 and 2

I'm conflicted on Season 5. At the time I was first watching it (which was recently) I was pretty sick of it.

However with a bit of time passing I do look back on it in a bit more fondness. It was no doubt ridiculous, but I can somewhat see the funny side to it.

I always lol whenever I think of McNulty's "We need to kill again" classic.

Plus Bunks reactions whenever the homeless killer was brought up was always great. His incoherent mumbling and disgust upon learning from the ME that his labwork (for his homicide case) was going to be pushed back, because of the priority given to the homeless killer case, was priceless.

I think McKnulty's actions in season 5 fit perfectly with his character.

As far fetched as it seemed, it would be interesting to see if that storyline was inspired by any factual events, as a lot of the show is.
