The Worst Place On Earth You've Been To

I know what you mean mate, absolutely beautiful country - it's expensive true, that's the only downside.

I went there when I was 25 and loved it. We stayed at the bottom of a valley in the Jungfrau region, and the grass was as green you get. The thing is even though it was Summer, there was still snow in the alps, and as it was melting, the water would fall all over into the valley, and there were watersfalls all around us. These waterfalls culminated into a large body of water which would run right down through the middle of the valley. In order to get from where we were staying to the other side, you would cross and old wooden bridge (which was structurally sound), but just how preserved and old fashioned everything was, and naturally beautiful, was something I would never forget.

Also... I would love to do this one day:

I think you and I have stayed at the same place. The little 'backpackers' with all the wooden cabins. It continued on the other side of that wooden bridge and they have an old bomb shelter that they've turned into a nightclub for tourists. My cabin was the nearest to the bridge so all night all I heard was the rushing water and people drunkenly laughing and walking back to their cabins.

That's probably right man, and you needed to walk about 10 mins to get to the nearest train station and catch 2 different train to get up into the alps right?

I'll never forget that place.

I think there was a train station about that far away, but I was on a BusAbout hop-on hop-off tour so I didn't need to look for it. I recall it was about a 2hr walk through the valley to get to the Schilthorn cable cars. That and Interlakken a short drive away are about my only reference points that I can think of at the moment!

But yeah, absolutely stunning place.

Depends on what you mean by worst.

Agree with a lot that has been said.

Paris is overrated

Adelaide by far the most deadest, boring I have ever been too.
Probably because we're a city for locals, not everything we do is catered for tourists.

Other than our 1970's era public transport system and crap job market, I've had no issues since I moved here a decade ago.

I feel like most people who hate Adelaide have probs not been there in like a decade or spent two days there one time. Of course not every place is for everyone either, but it's a f**k load better than when I lived there in the 90s and heaps better than even 15 years ago. Far from the worst place going

Both Adelaide and Perth get a bit of an unfair wrap. Only had a long weekend in both but I enjoyed them for what they were. Sure they’re a slower pace and a bit sleepier than the main east coast centres but they have their own charm

Lived in Perth for ages, great place. WA is so much more than Perth though, fantastic uncrowded coastline.

Perth's problem is the CBD is pretty shit... Freo is cool though and the coastline is stunning. Adelaide actually has a pretty cool CBD.

I've lived here for a decade and I agree.

It's our public transport system and our job market that lets us down.

Dora Creek and Umina....ugh

Bangkok f**ken sucks too. Any place that's so filthy you can walk past a stack of durian as tall as Shaun "Jeez He's Rangy" Lane and not smell then has some issues
Got some good memories of Bangkok but the smell is awful I admit!

There are a few lil towns in the lower to central North Island of NZ which are absolute shit holes. Dannevirke, Bulls, Shannon, Taihape, Ohakune...roll them all up into 1. They're all as shitty as each other. There's not much worth stopping for between Paraparaumu and Taupo.

Internationally, I'll say Ampang, Malaysia (just outside of KL). It was polluted, smelled bad (intensified by the heat and humidity) and I saw a few large rats living it up on the streets.

Always remember having to do some work in Dannevirke and asking the locals what there was to do- their suggestion was to feed the ducks at the park…
Places like Taihape and Bulls basically exist as a pit stop between destinations- at least Bulls has a bit of fun with their shitness with the ‘something-bull’ local business signs.
Shannon I think basically exists as a bus depot and Ohakune isn’t too bad during the ski season as a base for Ruapehu

True that re: Kune. Never been there during ski season, all I remember is the big carrot being the main attraction. You know a town is pretty limited when a giant model of something which represents the town is the top tourist attraction (gumboot in Taihape, L&P bottle etc. - although I've never been to Paeroa).

I enjoyed the tank in Waiouru in front of the army museum. Took some photos on that. GI Joe stylez lol.

You Kiwi ladsz should drive across Tassie. I feel like you'd appreciate the half dead, halfway towns where the only thing of note is a pub that used to be a house and the entire town is basically liminal space.

It's kind of creepy tbh
