This new stadium for Sydney better not be multi-purpose

Why build a rectangular stadium is Sydney's west when Parramatta stadium has more than enough capacity to host these teams?

Can I just say, why exactly do we need this stadium?

Wests Tigers - Playing their home games at Campbelltown pretty much means they are playing their games at their home ground and as far as I'm concerned, Liverpool is not what they need. They already train at Concord and split their home games between Campbelltown, Leichhardt and Allianz, they don't need a 5th ground.

Parramatta Eels - They are in Sydneys WEST, not SOUTH WEST.

Penrith Panthers - They are in Sydneys GREATER WEST - not SOUTH WEST.

Canterbury Bulldogs - We simply will not play games at Liverpool after the 2002 Oasis shemozzle, and if the board members value their jobs, such a thing will never even hit the agenda, otherwise they'll be outed at the AGM.

Because ground rationalisation is inevitable. The 20,000 seat stadiums in Sydney cannot afford to all be upgraded over time. But the location is paramount to ensure a new stadium is used by the maximum number of clubs.

Further, a city like Sydney in which RL is by far the major code and union and soccer also have decent followings only has one large rectangular venue, which is ridiculous.

We don't even know if the stadium is going to be at Liverpool.

What's your objection to playing games at Liverpool btw? What's the connection between the oasis shemozzle and a possible new stadium?

In regards to the tigers , clearly they would be better served by playing out of less stadiums. A new stadium in the west could see them ditch Campbeltown and Allianz and use that as their main base.

I was under the impression that Leichhardt might get the shove since they are trying to reduce the number of suburban grounds. You could play some games at the SFS for inner west fans.

I don't think Leichhardt will be getting shoved any time soon.

Regardless, it'll probably be another decade before a new stadium eventuates.

Pretty much this
They would be forced to drop Leichhardt before Campbelltown

Not having a dig, but what is the connection to Liverpool for the Tigers fans, especially in ditching playing in Campbelltown which is one of the areas they are supposed to be representing ?

Is it a build it and they will come strategy?

The Tigers need to keep some games at Leichhardt - even though their membership base is not huge, a lot of their current members are buying the packages for Leichhardt and not the other grounds...

You are right through, they are playing in too many stadiums and I would love to see them go back to a 50/50 split between LO and Campbelltown....

The government cant shove anyone.

What they're proposing is to stop funding suburban grounds.

The whole idea is to rationalise stadiums to save money, keeping extra grounds for 1-2 games just blows out costs even further.

Fair enough, is it a council owned facility? They could always scale back the stadium to accommodate less fans and use it for low drawing games I guess.

It's not like Liverpool is that far away from Campbelltown, and much better situated to take advantage of a larger areas of potential support.

At best they can do what the Bulldogs are doing with Belmore and have a trial match there. For the 3 games a year, it's not worth putting good money after bad into that stadium if it's hardly used. Prefer that cash went into other stadiums, like Brookvale which gets a hell of a lot of use, and is much poorer that Leichardt.

You are right through, they are playing in too many stadiums and I would love to see them go back to a 50/50 split between LO and Campbelltown....

ANd then the club would be back to making no money at games, as the costs for large screens etc just make it too hard to make any money out of the game. ANZ/Allianz both guarantee a minimum amount they will make, hopefully the same would be said of any new stadium in Liverpool. So for the inner city fans of the TIgers, they would just hope that the Tigers transfer those 3 games to Allianz every year, and play the rest out of Liverpool if that was chosen.

Whats their connection to allianz stadium ? If anything allianz neglects the wests side of the club.

Liverpool is smack bang in the middle of Leichhardt and Campbelltown. Seems like a great compromise to me.

Liverpool is well situated between the two sides and would preferably host all home games, any SFS home games would be a compromise for not playing at Leichhardt.

At the end of ground rationalisation its likely we'll see only 3-4 grounds used across Sydney, as oposed to the 8 or so now. Campbelltown and Leichhardt seem obvious choices for eventually getting demoted once a new stadium is finished, but it'll be a long process.

However, Liverpool is a lot easier to get to from Campbelltown than from Balmain currently.

Im 99% sure its owned by the council.

And there isnt really anything to scale back. Leichhardt is already pretty much a shell.

Hence my comment about going back to 50/50 LO and Cambo. They get paid to play there, so I assume that the new stadium would have to come up with the cash....

Yeah, only about 25kms from Campbelltown to Liverpool & 29Kms from Leichhardt to Liverpool...its not exactly "down the road" for either base to attend...
