He would have looked great in parras colours - i would have thrown 600K at him.
With Jt and Hayne together, any side would be unbeatable.
JT is twice the player that Cooper Cronk is.

And still wouldn't of been remotly close enough

Yeah, i think the past 2 years Thurstons been seeing alot of Haynes palm.
Haynes first touch in Origin 1 this year - smashes Thurston.

I think there should be a nice little highlight reel package of Thurston trying to defend Hayne.

my impression of thurston:
- fantastic league player
- whiny bitch brat tendancies
- extremely competative
- has a good side (everyone does)
- but generally a dick

I've always liked JT from the moment he gave Steve price his premiership ring. If I remember correctly Price was injured or suspended for his last game with the dogs in the gf and thurston was 18th and got the nod. I thought it was a really nice gesture.

Nah, thats called pressure from the higher-ups to give it to him.
I hope Pricey gave it back to him though.

I don't believe it was from memory - the pressure from higher up I mean.

Price did give it back, and the NRL made another ring to give to Price.
I respected Thurston from that day onwards. Still do.

1. kicking the ball away stops the play and prevents opposition having any advantage.. its just playing smart. almost every player does it. throwing the ball away, etc.
2. hes the captain of the team, so hes entitled to question referees over certain decisions they make.. but not the way he did during the incidient a while back. he's probably learnt from that by now
3. 1v1 big man on smaller man? what do you expect to happen? maybe the dirty looks were because his teammates were supposed to support him in defence? considering hes their halfback 'the smallest man on the field'.

No - we received a penalty and he kicked the ball away. They knocked on, ref had already called a scrum and he kicked the ball away. He's a poor sport.

Lol so because he's captain he can say whatever he wants to the referee? I've never hear Cayless speak to the referee the way JT has done.

Here we go again - bigger on smaller. Who cares? The point is he missed those tackles and he looked at other players as if to somehow say it was their fault.

Give me Hindy as a role model over this prat any day of the week. If it's a non-Eel, then give me Petero Civoniceva.

The kid is a legend and should have his statue erected outside Parramatta Stadium. :sarcasm:

Obviously I'm joshing. But seriously - he's a kid and obviously a mad Parra fan. It's no big deal. To be brutally honest had he done it to me I probably would have given it away too. Maybe not chucked it away, but I doubt I'd keep it. I'm not a fan of JT at all. Or of Queensland or the Cowboys.

"Oh, but it's football memorabilia!" So is the sand used when some kickers kick goals - should I keep that, too?

The trouble with having such a good halfback in your squad, and paying them such a high salary, is that the rest of your team pretty much has to suck.

The Cowboys forwards were woeful, with the exception of Mason (probably their best on the night) and their number 17. The rest had nothing - that's the cost of putting all your bets on the one player.

A look at the Cowboys win ratio shows it's a gamble that's not worth it for a club, no matter how nice or not nice the guy is with his headgear. Even if he and Hayne were in the same side, they'd get pumped every week because the forwards would be a bunch of guys from the park on $55K each.

Good gesture from Thurston. In a time where teams are dogging potential fans out west it's refreshing to see a player of his stature take some time out and give back to the audience. As for the kid, I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was too young to know what he was doing.

Eele, I get the feeling you have an agenda with JT.

Well, when its one of your favourite players, of course you'd think theres an agenda against Thurston. The blokes great off-field, but abit of a grub onfield, not that I could careless whether he was or wasn't. Most players are.

Or, he supports Parramatta and wants nothing to do with JT. Even if he is the best player in the game.

I don't really understand this thread at all?

The kid throwing the headgear away is definitely a reflection of Thurston and his (very poor) public image that he generates with his on field behaviour.

I'm sure he's a really nice guy off the field, but he often carries on like a spoilt brat on the field. If the kid threw the headgear away it's a sign that Thurston needs to smarten up his behaviour so that he doesn't get so many people offside!

mrpwned - I don't have favourites in the NRL, I do think Thurston is one of the best and for him to go out of his way in a losing effort and to hand over something like his headgear I felt was a very nice touch and he didn't deserve the treatment he received.

As for Eele, this isn't the only thread he's been vocal about ol' JT. Not that I have a problem with it, I'm just asking the question.

Tezza - I'd hope not, otherwise it's just disrespectful on the kid's part. Not that it really matters, the deed is done, we all had a laugh (it may of been wrong, but it's hard not to chuckle, hell even JT joined in if the replay is to be believed) but I'm just calling a spade a spade, his actions were disrespectful

You can't have it both ways though?

Abusing referees (and getting of scott free); whinging about everything on the field and doing things within the rules but not 'sportsmanlike' - AND THEN expect every opposition fan to turn around and embrace you once the game finishes.

If JT doesn't want his headgear pegged away, then stop booting the ball away well after a stoppage is called; stop the amateur dramatics whenever one of your forward passes is called forward; stop the theatrics whenever something goes wrong for you.

Present yourself better ON the field and reap the rewards OFF the field

Or carry on getting your headgear pegged

Then what the hell is David Taylor doing in your DP?

Also, think of it this way. I would care more for the signature of Joel Reddy then Greg Inglis. ONLY because he plays for Parramatta.

Because he's the biggest player in Rugby League and my user name happens to be 'Big Pete' I thought it was a suitable selection. That, and I wanted to show which state I was supporting during the Origin series.

Abusing referees (and getting of scott free)

He was fined, and it went straight into junior Rugby League.

whinging about everything on the field

That's his job, he's captain.

doing things within the rules but not 'sportsmanlike

Like what?

, then stop booting the ball away well after a stoppage is called

Did you see why that stoppage was called? It all came from an amateur play that would have tested even the most composed halfback. Not to mention, most players do it.

reap the rewards OFF the field

 because that kid accepting the headgear would mean so much to Thurston.

Don't get me wrong, I get your points that on-field behaviour determines how you'll be accepted off the field but it's not as if Thurston is Hopoate or anything. He's just a very competitive footballer who went out of his way to give a kid a rare memento.
