Time for Moylan to 5/8

Why? Because he realises that we don't have an adequate replacement for Moylan at fullback? Or is it because he made our blokes drop all those balls today?

I don't get this argument , as important as FB is it's still not as important as a halves position. These are the guys who make or break teams.

Asside from his safe hands Moylan just isn't much of a fullback anyway , exactly what are we losing with our other options?

id suggest we might gain pace with any one of the three other current options. If we look at Hiku for FB next year we'll gain size.

That's a very good point , it strengthens the argument for Moyaln to the halves too.

Moylan's no.1 skill is ball playing , if he's getting in the way of the halves doesn't it make sense to have a different style of fullback?

I know I'm flogging a dead horse here but I'm convinced Moyaln will play the majority of his FG career in the halves , of not with us it'll be with someone else.
I have come to the same conclusion. A fullback must have a strong kick return. He doesn't. You could argue Mansour makes up for that. If Blake, Peachey and DWZ did more work then Moylan's weak running game might not matter so much. The coach seems to let them bludge though. The centres need to roll their sleeves up. DWZ needs a spell. He does try hard but not usually to positive effect.

With a weak running game and Moylan now competing to be a half, if TMM is a better all round player then Moylan is really surplus to requirements. That is a big "if" though.

The only other thing I would add is that TMM has a great build to be a hooker and with his 5/8 skill set could be a Smith type hooker. The days of hookers just being tackling machines are long gone. Smith has shown that a hooker can control a game as much as a half if they have the skill. Another big "if".

Moylan 5/8th, TMM hooker, Cleary halfback. Possibly a legendary spine in the making. Or not. I'd love to at least give it a try though.

Yeah I could see Moylan really stifling the development of Cleary and TMM in years to come the way Farah has those tigers halves. And yeah I think if TMM and Cleary continue to develop than a ball playing FB who cant tackle and doesn't provide much support play becomes very less valuable to us.

Yeah Mansour is the only reason we get away with Moylan's poor kick returns.

You need two of three things to play FB i think

1. Pace
2. Size
3. Hands

I only see Moylan with no.3 , he just can't break a defensive line , something which is a key component of playing FB.

There's a good chance Moylan may be a better 5/8 than TMM though , but in the end I'm happy wth whoever is the better performer in that position.

TMM will then have to play hooker in reserve grade until such times as he's the best 9 available. That could be quite some while. Seems like a bit of a waste, but something to think about for next year.

I think Hiku should be fullback next year. We saw on the weekend how important to start our sets well is. Something we have struggled to do when we don't have Moylan playing

TMM to hooker? I don't think so. He has comparisons to a young Benji and you wouldn't play Benji version 2005 then and now version 2016 at Hooker.
Beside Hook has already stated he wants a straight up-and-down hooker to play within a strict on-field structure, not a playmaker or a ball runner at Hooker.

I think Cartwright has stagnated this season. Making him the 6 for so long has simply screwed him around. It's telling how many opposition fans now see him as a bit of a joke when mentioned as a rep player. He needs to be in the second row, full stop, and work on his game.

The fact that Moylan did not get a single run out at 6 is a total joke.

The only part of 2005 Benji that would be any good in a half today is his running game. Take that away (as age has done) and you're left with a half that really doesn't fit in anywhere. I hope that Te Maire Martin is a more complete player than Benji was regardless of where he plays.

I'm not saying he's a hooker but in the 6 games he's played I didn't see what made a young Benji great , that's his sheer acceleration at that age. He might be that style of player but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Hell Andrew Johns spent time at hooker early in his rep career.

To me if Moylan does move to 5/8 , TMM can come off the bench for a while.

If Moylan makes an impact at 5/8 then TMM is going to have to look elsewhere for a halves opportunity.

I don't see the big deal.

This x1000. But you know apparently it makes a lot more sense to shift a developing backrower there for a chunk of a season and then rush TMM back asap all the while leaving the most obvious choice to play 5/8 at FB and we will just let him play as a half when we have the ball to really confuse things.

Moylan is essentially playing 5/8th in attack at the moment. Not much changes other this his jersey number if he moves to 6.

I personally look forward to seeing 7. Cleary 6. TMM 1. Moylan.
