the press release released by the knights which kicked off the whole 'mirage' debacle

had their issues been sorted out behind closed doors (as they should) the he said she said rubbish and subsequent disillusionment of some members could have been avoided

Fair enough but if you are going to level criticisim for that then I think its fair to level some at the TSP as well. Both parties were guilty of playing things out through the media and emotions were running high. Tinkler himself said as much in his NBN interview.

indeed..

certain press releases from certain irresponsible members of knights management come swiftly to mind...

That certainly didn't help, but did you notice all the anti-Knights admin articles being published left right and centre in the press in the weeks leading up to that point? Takes two to tango you know.

Not to mention the sly goings on behind the scenes which forced the club to play hard ball.

The 'mirage' press release was delivered after TSG bailed from proceedings, even though both parties were scheduled to have a meeting that day. Again, yes both parties participated in the nonsense, however as the members meeting last week proved, it really was TSG (for some unknown reason) trying to slowly, and deliberately alter the offer a considerable amount compared to what the club and its members was offered back in January.

The Meeting is taking place on March 31st, 7pm and is going to be at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre showground. Letters were sent out last night.

Got mine but not particularly clear if that means I have a vote or not? I wonder whether the information has been sent to all members?? If so it will be a long night if people are turning up thinking they can vote and have to be checked off some list for verification....

cram bring your driver's licence. They can verify you that way if all else fails. Otherwise Proxy it. It should be a fascinating night indeed. Cannot wait. I hope the anti change brigade are diginfied enough to let go and allow the club to become what it was always meant to be. A success that will put Newcastle on the map well and truly. This will bring the city out of the shadows.

Knights legends back Tinkler bid
MARTIN DINNEEN
09 Mar, 2011 04:25 PM

KNIGHTS greats will be broadcast on the small screen this month as part of an information campaign to endorse the Nathan Tinkler Knights takeover bid.
Premiership coach Malcolm Reilly was at Nobbys today to shoot his television commercial, aimed at informing the public, and club members, of the merits of the bid.
He will be joined on the small screen by greats Michael Hagan, Steve Simpson, Mark Hughes and club founding father Leigh Maughan.
Mark Sargent, Billy Peden, Tony Butterfield and Steve Crowe have also signed on as voluntary ambassadors for the bid.
Reilly said he was convinced Mr Tinkler had the best interest of the club at heart.
‘‘This is a chance to get back to the glory days,’’ he said.
The series of television advertisements, airing first on Friday on NBN, are part of a campaign the The Tinkler Sports Group will spread across print, radio and television in the lead up to the Knights’ members’ vote on March 31 the at Newcastle Entertainment Centre.

From yesterday's Newcastle Herald (page 26)

Just reading through and saw the bit about $3 mil for 2011 and $2.5 mil a year for juniors. I guess the first question is for pika, what would $3 mil cash injection for 2011 mean in terms of facilities, staff, etc and the second question is how much do we currently spend on the juniors?

Decent supplements for NRL (currently bottom entry stuff).

Supplements for NYC (currently none).

Recovery (massage and ice baths) for NYC.

Decent GPS system.

Possibly another physio that specialises in rehab (currently being shared between NYC physio and NRL physio)

Full time nutritionist (currently consultant).

Full time sports psychologist (currently consultant).

Full time stats man (currently done by NYC physio).

Decent set of bells. Weight rated bars and calibrated plates for the gym (I want this, not sure if anyone else does haha).

Strongman equipment (Prowlers, torps, logs, tyres etc).

Would not have a clue about front office. I bet that would need some work as well.

As far as Jr development goes, that part of the office could use another three full time guys easily. Just getting around to schools and the like is a stretch for those guys. One of the hardest working departments in the Office.

Just off the top of my head.....

Never knew there were so many things to be improved just on the football side of things. I mean I always thought NRL teams would have access to the latest and best supplements. I'm also quite surprised the NYC boys don't get supplements, one of my mates works with the dogs 20s team and those boys get access to the best Bsc supplements.
After reading that I wish people knew the limitations that our club is working with. It's all good to be a community club, but clearly that isn't working for our staff to have to do other jobs because we can't afford enough full-time specialists.
Alot of the knights nannas and other old timers won't understand this and will be too stubborn to understand it, but I hope the more up to date members can realise how much of a difference the extra funds can make

I am astounded that our club is doing without/taking the lowest option in those points bolded.

No suppliments for the NYC boys is just rediculous and having the cheap stuff for our FG boys is downright neglectful.

I shudder to think what shape our club was in before Smaith was here to give our training a shake up back in '07

Front office needs a major overhaul but I would think that will occur through the consolidation of admin etc through a restructure of all admin related tasks. I would also imagine that they would look to create a combined admin that looks after both Knights and Jets issues.

Our premierships are all the more extraordinary for it. True David versus Goliath efforts. More to follow but the difference will be we will have the edge all round next time.
