Tips/Advice For Debut?

Messages

Hey, i playing my first ever footy game in a couple of weeks and i will be representing my school. However, i'm obviously inexperienced since i've never played an actual footy game other than just mucking around with friends, but i know the rules pretty well.

Cutting to the chase, is there any tips or advice i could possibly recieve due to the fact that i'm pretty nervous. I've got a truckload of adrenaline, yet i'm still a little bit shaky about going up against big players. No tryouts so i'm pretty much in the team. Here's a little bit about myself.

Age: 15
Height: 175cm (5'9")
Weight: 60kg (135lbs)
Position: Utility (Anywhere but prop)

No real advice for you mate, but to just go out and enjoy it. Your adrenaline will help carry you through. I'm sure I grew another leg after lacing up the the boots.

Just good to see that you are going to have a go.

If nerves are a problem look to get yourself involved as early as possible. Try to make at least one tackle or run the ball once in the first set.

Good luck.

If you run soft you'll get smashed...stick to the basics until you get used to it, as in don't try and get fancy, don't push your passes early. Just run hard and tackle hard.

Call the ref sir and try to stay on his good side - those pricks can ruin your day if you piss them off.

This. Every time I seemed to not touch the ball early I had a sh*t game. Get in there and have a run.

Yeah, as others have said try to get an early carry. That's the most important thing you can possibly do, otherwise the longer the game goes on the more nervous you will get. That goes for every game you will ever play in really, especially if you are on the wing or in the backs. Once you've got that first bit of action you'll be good for the rest of the game.

Get an early carry. After the first couple hits then all that other bullsh*t just goes out the window. Your adrenaline will propel you through the game.

You worried about getting hurt?

Yea your going to get into a few good bruisers, so what? They can't do anything to you that you probably haven't been through before.

Want to impress your peers?

Don't worry, you already did by stepping onto the pitch. Most of them don't have the hardware between the legs to do it themselves.

Just remember the guy across from you is just as nervous or more so than you are. He may be bigger, stronger, faster, and more experienced... So what are you going to do about it?

Watch "Mike Tyson fear of losing and humiliation" on youtube.

Tackle the big boys around the legs.

Work out of marker.

Talk to your man inside you.

Hit the five when on defence.

Run hard at the gaps when on attack.

Don't fight the wrestle, hit the ground and play the ball as quick as possible.

Hit the ball at pace.

the older guys should have told you already
but its a ritual in your first game to grab a guy on the "wheels" in a tackle and start a stink

just make sure the ref know its your debut so he doesn't send your off

your welcome

****just kidding don't do this******

Pray to your god and see if he really likes you.

And stay on the wing....if thats where you end up. DO NOT drop the ball EVER.

RUN HARD......really important......Good luck, you will have a lot of fun.

Sorry to revive this old thread. I just came here to say that i'm playing next Friday and i'll either be starting the match at centre or i'll be on the bench. I've grown a bit since i last posted in this thread. Plus, i feel faster and stronger. Thank you guys for the advice since i can't wait.

Remember shoulders and legs. In tackles make shoulder contact wether you are in offense or defense. And then drive with the legs. Be careful where you put your head.
Run straight. Don't be temted to run sideways. You're not Benji Marshall.
Count off your man. Talk. Keep a straight defensive line.
Don't get angry. Stay focused. Be disciplined.
Keep going and don't slack off till the full time whistle.

It's a simple game really.

If you're at centre, talk talk talk talk talk. Not only to your winger, but make sure to call the players inside you across if you see an overlap developing.

Run hard, tackle hard, don't do anything stupid.
