Hmmm. If true, it doesn't sound very promising.

Not nessarily.

It's just giving him a little over a week extra to negotiate.

We may have also done it on the understanding we get the last option.

All is not lost.

Franze was one of the players names that was off contract in the Telegraph a couple of weeks ago.

McGoldrick's name hasn't been listed anywhere as being off contract. I also thought we signed him for two years. Or was it one of those 1 year deals with a 1 year option?

What do I think of Reick?

Tonne of pace and can really finish off a try. Loved how he stood up Luke Pattern at Homebush this year and then blitzed him with speed. Apparently had a bit of a step going in pre season trials according to Kimmorley, haven't seen much of it this year.Handling has let him down in the past. Defence is ok. Not bad under the high ball. Good kick return. Second best winger at the club behind Simmons.

Merritt has been disappointing this year. He needs to start showing more involvement otherwise next year close the door behind you son...............

Rieck should be re-signed even on just a 1yr deal because he's the quickest player we have, he's one of the quickest in the NRL, he's young, he hasn't reached his full potential, he often follows our play makers around so he can finish off tries.

What more do you need reefy? Still keen on Dallas over Rieck?

Ok Reefy, I think Reick should be given another contract.

Like I said I think he is the second best winger at the club. He's still quite young and I think maturing to his peak in the next couple of years. We don't have alot of good wingers coming through the grades apart from Pelo who is very talented but still very green and probably a couple of years away from regular first grade football.

I assume Reick is only asking for similar money he is currently on. If he was asking for any increase I would baulk at that and certainly play hardball.

If it was a decision on whether to let Reick go and chase El masri I would be all for it. The power of having most of your trys converted is a very powerful case to chase. Plus I think El masri's wing skills are very underestimated. He is 28 and a 2 year deal would probably see him out and by then someone like a Pelo could step in.

Anyway that's my reasoning.

If the Sharks couldn't find anyone better to replace Reick I'd say sign him for 2 years.

To be honest I don't know the going price for a player like Reick.

I would just state that he'd get paid the going rate for a non representative player but solid winger. I certainly wouldn't get into a bidding war for his services and pay overs.

Well a month ago they were asking CEO's how much they thought Tuquri Rogers were worth in the NRL and it ranged from $200,000 to $400,000but most said between $250,000 to $300,000. But these guys are both dual internationals and noted goal kickers.

So I don't think the Sharks should lash out $200,000 a season on Reick if that is what he is asking. Hell no! Going by those figures I'd say more like$120,000 to $140,000.

FYI Reick is on half of that.
But it just goes to show how far off the mark you are with "your contract talks & signings"
Reick misses on average 9 games per year has terrible hands is incapable of setting up a try & has quie avearge defense. Yet you would be willing to pay 140k for him.
Flip side for you is David Peachey.
One of the NRL 's leading try scorers, try assists, line break assists.
He has also missed 8 games. Only he decides to spread that over 3 years.
& you say we flick peach but sign Reick on twice what he currently earns.
Quite odd.

Back Flip you know how much Reick is on????????

NOPE!!!!!!!!!

Peachey is on the rise????????????

NOPE!!!!!!!!

Reick is young and starting to mature???????

YES!!!!!!!!!

And like where are all our 1st grade wingers at the club Back Flip????

Not much there I can tell you. So if you can't recruit better you keep the good players youi've got right?????????

Oh by the way Ryan McGoldrick was very dangerous today. Did you see the Panthers quiver when he had the ball in his hands??? So much speed.....NOT. He couldn't even get out of the ingoal today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So do we keep McGoldrick Back Flip????
He's a first grader???

I thought Rieck went ok today today. He was quiet in the second half but in the first half didnt put a foot wrong. There were no signs of dodgy hands or anything. He seemed to be running pretty freely too. With todays performance combined with his 2002 efforts i reckon Rieck should be resigned at the right price. I dont mind Merrit and think he goes ok, but i thought Rieck was clearly better than him today.

If Rieck is on $140K, then we'd be better off not re-signing him. That's far too much for a player of his standard. We also would have paid massively over the odds for him too - he was an unwanted player at Penrith.. why throw $140K at him?
