:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Good luck to you lot if its true, the bloke couldnt keep himself out of strife when he wasnt around football in a small town like goulburn, what makes you think he is going to stay out of strife in sydney??

What, the big bucks, Bondi lifestyle and pretty much guaranteed Origin spot isn't enough in your mind?

bullcrap...how many 400k superstars can one team have...what happened to not being able to afford mason so back loading his contract. How do they magically have the money to do this.

Roosters now from all reports have Minichiello on 400k, Anasta on 450k, Pearce on 400k, Myles on 350k, Mason on 400k, O'Meley on 400k. Thats 5 players on $2,000,000 between them. Add Carney on his huge contract and that gives you 19 players in a $1.6 mill salary cap (less than 85k per player). I doubt this very much considering they have Fitzgibbon, Soliola, Sa, Aubusson etc. in that mix who would also be on considerable money. Add to that all these superstars are on really long term deals.

Numbers numbers numbers.

Well the Origin comment was more a jibe about how usually under-performing Roosters still make Origin...:sarcasm:

I find it ridiculous. He's a great player, but FMD - the Chooks cannot possibly have done this completely legally.

Also, talk about desperation to buy a title ffs. Sign an off-field trainwreck who will do nothing to promote the goodness of the game off the field....Albeit being uber-talented on said field...

its funny how the media have been wanking on celebrating druggo Cousins returning to AFL yet Carney is treated entirely differently

look at this

Todd Carney signing a slap in the face
Article from: The Daily Tegraph

By Dean Ritchie

SYDNEY Roosters, you are kidding.

Signing serial bad boy Todd Carney is the most embarrassing and ill-conceived move in the club's history.

Shame on the officials who want to sign him, because the game doesn't need him. Carney has had ample chances to redeem his horrendous reputation but continues to reoffend.

The bloke can play football, no doubt, but he has alcohol issues.

Why would any club sign a player with these problems in the current climate? Is it not enough the game has been forced to deal with drunken players Brett Stewart, Anthony Watmough, Brett Seymour and Daniel Holdsworth in recent weeks?

If I was the chief executive of major sponsor Samsung I would be straight on the phone demanding answers. I would bluntly say: "If Carney signs, we take our millions of dollars elsewhere."

Quite obviously the Roosters do not care about the image of rugby league.

They only care about results. How selfish and self-centred. The game, and the Roosters' fans, deserve better.

then some homo writes an article about the crackhead whilst drooling

i dont like Carney but i fully dont get how AFL players can pretty much do no wrong, but league players look sideways and they are crucified in the media. its such a double standard.

Big bucks didn't stop him, neither did a potential Origin position from screwing up at the Raiders...I find it hard to believe that the Bondi/Sydney lifestyle will help him

The AFL get hit with a feather in the media compared to league when it comes to bad behaviour.

I believe it might be worse for him actually, the lure of the city and kings cross etc might be to tempting to resist his old habits regardless of the coin he may be getting.

Surprising to say the least considering they only resigned pearce what was it a week ago, fittler must really see anasta purely as a lock at this stage of his career thats the only reason i can see for signing carney.

The roosters have a pretty strict drinking code as well. I think the players are allowed to drink once a week the night of the game or something.

As if Carney would be able to stick to it.

And referring to the article.. isnt Setaimata Sa signed till 2012? wtf

I dont know if this is still the case, but through out my sports-management based degree there were some interesting stories being bandied about with regards to the Australian Football League and positive editorial stories in major news outlets.

Now in no way am I implying that the positive editorial is with regards to washing over 'the negative stories', however it was noted that it could have a major influence on the manner in which they were reported. I am not so naïve to think that that senior management would be on the phone if said organisation was copping a bum wrap from a media organisation reminding them of their importance to their revenue streams. I’ve seen media accreditation been removed from journo’s who didn’t tow the line. They've continued their crusade in the short term, but have changed their tune down the line when they realise that their lively-hood could be at stake.

The NRL has allowed it’s competition to be run by the media, first by dictation of game times, days, competition rounds. Now while that is healthy and critical for survival, it has now allowed the media to become their moral advisors. Gone is the course of justice and presumption of innocence until proven otherwise, we have a bunch of hypocrites running kangaroo court sessions through the papers and airwaves pushing their moral crusade on us. The Brett Seymour incident was the straw that broke the camels back, how the hell being intoxicated illegal and immoral is beyond comprehension, anyone would think Fred Nile is the new editor at Nein. From the Sharks and NRL’s point of view, for them not to have the balls to stand up to the media and tell them to shove it beggars belief. Had it been another sporting code, I believe it would have been a very minor story, regardless of allegations made earlier the week. Look at how CA handled the latest Symonds story, non-issue, that’s how Seymours incident should have been handled.

While other leaders are out their spinning bullsh*t PR, our game has sat back and been too modest. Demetriou, Buckley, Levick, O’Neill and Sutherland are all out their skewing their figures and pumping up their sports while the NRL sits back and boasts modestly every now and then.

Its time for the NRL to stand up and not let the media dictate on how its competition to be run. The game creates an awful lot of revenue for these companies and outlets, its about time the game shows them who’s boss.

A Bulldogs fan talking about rorting the cap. Oh the irony :lol::lol:

Sa signed a 4 year deal last year.

I think you'll find this will be Fitzgibbons last year. One of O'Meley or Mason will be "released" from their contract as well. If Minichiello plays again it would have to be on an incentive based deal. Soliola will go to the Sharks.

On Todd Carney - I am in two minds. Someone on here earlier said it will either be a masterstroke or an embarrassment. I agree completely with that comment.
