So the Roosters sign him just 3 weeks after he makes his latest stuff up, while one of their own players currently sits on a 2 match ban for misbehaviour. I don't think that sends out the right message to their own players given the current climate. If you stuff up 5 times you'll always get another chance. Given the recent drunken incidents it would have been smart for them to hold off for a while. They may 'claim' any contract will depend on his behaviour throughout the year, but the reason they are signing him now pure and simple is because they want to get in before any other club does.

To all the sucky Roosters fans who are saddened by this news, harden the f**k up!

It sounds to me like you tow Dean Ritchies "all they care about is results" line. Well fancy that! In a competitive sport about winning a team is focused on results! Who would have thought it. As long as we dont break any rules then he can go and cry in his bowl of cereal.

Carney is no hardened criminal. He has screwed up a few times but that doesnt mean he shouldnt be allowed to earn a living doing the only thing he's good at.

I can't stand it when fans whinge when their club takes a punt and signs a world class player. "But but but, hes naughty!". This isn't the Wiggles League FFS. Give him a chance and stop whinging like you did with Mason. And if we do win a comp with him i fully expect you all to be tuned out and protesting as opposed to celebrating.

Bottom line is let us win a comp with Carney and Mason rather than have poor seasons like we have for the last 4 years. The best years weve had for over 30 years occurred when we were the most despised club in League because we were so phenomenally good. So if being hated by poor old Dean Ritchie and a few other jealous fans is the price to pay for winning then so be it.

Welcome aboard Todd Carney.

Totally agree Tommy, nicley put. However, i hope its not Sa who leaves. It might be though, he has always stated he wants to become an all black.

What a rediculous post. Why wait for others to pounce?

Also, don't you think he has been punished enough by having a lucrative contract torn up and forced to play rugby league in park football in North Qld? Once he serves his ban he has every right to play NRL again. Just like the Roosters have every right to sign him for next season.

Just because you are stuck with Brett Finch...

Welcome aboard Todd Carney.

Mason has calmed the hell down, and on Sunday he proved his leadership value to our team. I have been up and down thinking about Carney, but if he straightens up, hell, we have a f*cking good halves combination for 2010 no doubt about it.

It'll be sad to lose a player through it, but hell, no Rooster fan would abandon after Mason came and no-one will either with Carney. He has something to work for. I may sound like I'm changing my mind about him with every post, the fact is I am. You can have ups and downs with a bloke like Todd, but if the ups outweigh the downs, heck, look what sort of future we got.

And if a bloke is going to personally help Todd with his life, Freddy is the man to do it.

how so? everyone knows the roosters let players get away with way more than everyone else and think they are above the rules. it took a bit to see anything happen to friend. and sherrington still has a contract.

not to mention other things that may or may not be going on at that club.......

The club is awaiting Cherrington's trial before punishment. And Friend, you do know about the shock treatment right? FFS. Trying to straighten up players is a much more required task then missing football. I now highly wish that same method was used with Stewart and Seymour, they shouldn't be the f*ck out either. Friend was fined a fifth of his annual salary. That's so f*cking getting away with it huh?

Minichiello and Fitzgibbon will make room for Carney's contract.
Yep, there'll be plenty of cap room if some player retire or leave the Roosters this year.

All clubs need to be a bit better with the guidance they give their players/employees. Hopefully the stance taken by the NRL so far this year will enable more clubs to get that part of their operations in order, and maybe Carney will find a potentially changed Roosters 2010 team environment (as a reuslt of Shillington, Friend etc) a better place for his off-field development and support than he has found before.

Well done chookies!!

Your club has made my week/year.

I love a man/club with balls that stands up to dribblers.

The kid goes f**king good..and your club has the network to be able to tame the wild child..

This has to be the last time..

Shillington is the prop that went to the Raiders..(Never known to have beat his girlfriend)..

Cherrington is the promising young second rower who beats his girlfriend..

His goal kicking is fairly average when things are going wrong for him. He is the type of player who can be put off by things going bad in his life and in the game etc

Our goal kicking has improved quite a bit since Campese took over.
