I can only hope that its not just the same as the lip service they have been feeding us, if they act on that then its great news.

They have had plenty of money, the game has not been underpaid, more realistically given the relatively small market that the game has its now over paid. Any excess money they have got has one either into the players pockets or more recently straight into the NRL executives as foolishly high salaries.

The lack of funding for junior clubs is a symptom of not caring about it.

I agree that the lack of funding for junior clubs needs to be addressed but saying that the game is being overpaid just doesn't make sense. If the NRL is paid less than it's market competitor the AFL then it's being underpaid.

A $280m shortfall with TV contracts under Gallop, suggests the game has been underpaid. In fact in the last year of Gallop's tenure, the NRL lost money>They had little in the Bank.

Imagine what could have been done with grassroots ,if the NRL then had gone close to matching the AFL deal.We got $500m over 6 years. The AFL $780m over 5 years.Yet we get the News ltd gimps, saying how wonderful Gallop was.

Moral of the story ,never let a Lawyer run investments. The know how to spend and charge.

We have a bigger TV audience than fumbleball which should mean more TV money. Pay up uncle Rupert.

In defence of Smith, he had the ASADA crap to deal with from the start to the middle of his reign, which my club caused. This must've been a massive headache to deal with & a big time consumer.

Without that, I'm sure greater progress in other areas would've been made, such as grass roots & bush footy.

The risk is, and I've seen this first hand, the new CEO will come in and want to put his stamp on things and the set up work starts again, all be it to a lesser degree. Very few CEOs come in and just carry on the last ceo's work. Would have been nice to have seen smith at least spend a couple more years bedding in the reforms and implementing his strategy.

I think what will likely happen is they will bring in a new CEO who will focus on things that Smith wasn't tasked to focus on. Smith was here to implement changes to our business model. He's done that pretty well. A new CEO may come in and change a few things Smith has done but I highly doubt he'll make vast changes to Smiths work.

Or he might. Doesn't matter really.

Imo in the aftermath of tv deal being announced, they should have sat on it for a year and then gone to the negotiating table. Agreeing to the 6pm game is absolutely disgraceful. NQ, I can see a 4-6k effect in crowds easily. The ARLC should be ashamed they rolled over so easily on that.

I want the best candidate for the job and to know who that is I would have to sit through the interviews and make my own judgement. Both Greenberg and Castle are strong candidates I imagine and so they should be.

On the second question - should John Grant take any notice of posts from randoms on a forum when deciding who the NRL ceo is ? Simply No f**king way

Just sew some buttons for eyes on one of Grants old footy socks. Saves money and will be as effective

Greenberg hasn't done a good enough job as Head of Football to be considered for elevation to Head of the NRL.

Don't know enough about Raeeeelene because she's the boss of the second biggest merkin club in the league.

The last outside appointment worked well - only stupid politics ended his tenure, and he comes away looking like a champ on a number of serious issues. Maybe try that approach again. Greenberg hasn't impressed me either in clubland or at NRLHQ. Don't know enough about Castle beyond her being very well regarded by the right kinds of people. Richardson shot any chance he might have had to pieces with that joke of a report he was commissioned to do.
