The numbers were low in comparison as he has outlined. No speculation there.

Flame away as to why.

But viewers did not tune in as they had in the past.

Maybe it is due in part to the horrible off season of negative headlines and perceived lack of LEADERSHIP in the NRL to address problems with its players and become a more palatable sport for the general public to watch. A sport without the stench of blokes who can't keep themselves out of the shit once they've had a drink?

Maybe people don't care much for these 'exhibition' or 'Mickey Mouse' games too.

Maybe it's a combo of both.

But whatever the reason, the numbers weren't flash.
Your desperation is showing here.

Viewers likely didn't "tune in like they have in the past" because 9 did very little promotion, and the opposition this year was an NZ side, which it can be argued draws viewers away like it would for a Warriors game.

All Stars game back in 2015/16/17 was losing interest with the public, no reason why the 2019 version was going to be any different.

TV ratings don’t take into account streaming services either, which I suspect has a much larger number of eyeballs watching compared to 2016

And no players misbehaving. Same problem, different reasons or just the norm in Aussie sport at the moment?

Saturation and the problem cricket Aus still has with programming all forms well possibly.

Many LU users talk about watching any footy they can get their eyeballs on in the off season and the general league lover would feel the same way yet Weedler has made a good point with the poor numbers for the All Star game. People did not tune in as they had in the past.

As I suggested, flame away as to why. Part of the discussion. It is clear one forumite gets his knickers in the not when others, and Danny Weedler, have their own theories and they don't concur with his agenda.

:joy: "I don't give the Big Bash credence" jfc

Nor do we give much credence to what you have to say TimTam.

If Weedler is poking holes in your theories then you need to reassess your stance big boy.

And you have the hide to play the desperation line yet come up with this feeble excuse. FFS.

Just admit it, Weedler wacked you.

Not quite.
Previously it was supposed to be the best indigenous players v the best of the rest of the NRL.
This time it was a fairly good indigenous squad v the NZ Warriors plus a couple of ring ins.

But it is an 'All Star' concept yes?

Weidler has presented the facts he wants, and ignored the ones that don't suit his narrative.

Whether you like it or not, going against a Big Bash semi final was always going to result in less viewers. All Stars had no FTA sport opposition in 2017, hence a larger figure.

especially seeing it was a Melbourne team v a Sydney team which are the two biggest markets

i mainly watched the BB and flicked over to the All Stars during the break between overs

I would have watched it but when there was no sign of any action by 8:00 pm, I switched off.
This is an issue, especially for the causal and younger fans.
When KO is 15-20 minutes after the advertised time, it turns people away

Simple fact is if 2 popular sports are broadcast at the same time then they will take viewers away from each .
Moreso one that is a semi final compared to a pre season all star game . .

Look how the aflx freak show rated . It was up against nothing .
If there was a cricket semi on it would have probabaly lost half its viewers.

Could be argued that AFLX on Friday night was the AFL's own version of a meaningless (competitively anyway) pre-season event, like NRL All Stars.

AFLX
Combined FTA metro, regional & Fox = 512,000

NRL All Stars
Combined FTA metro, regional & Fox = 552,000

Agree. It should have been on the Saturday evening.
