Hmm no doubt he got paid out, probably not as much as he could’ve got had he been pushed out pre covid.

Man, Grant wasn't all bad. He just lacked conviction.
He set up the digital arm which is going to be the biggest threat to Fox and 9. That's his and it's probably the best thing that we've done since the Super League war.
Where he failed terribly was in the TV rights negotiations. He blinked when we had all the cards against Fox.
Honestly don't get the sentiment against Timmah and, it pains me to say, Perth Red in this thread. They're both arguing that the media are being disingenuous with their reporting. And people are arguing against that? Probably anti vaxxers.
The digital arm is great but i keep hearing what a threat it is etc...if anyone thinks we will get by without tv deals they are kidding themselves. Be real, there just isn’t enough fans that a give shit about RL to make the media platform a genuine threat to our need for a massive tv deal. Casual fans who would never get the digital app drive up the value of the tv deal, we aren’t going to be the first major sporting league to go digital and not be beholden to a tv rights deal. The nrl hasn’t even been able to schedule their own games weekly, after years of fans complaining what team are we still watching every Friday? Who is deciding what games are played on which days? The media is still getting what they want, we aren’t in any kind of power position to negotiate with them because our leadership is piss poor. On top of that the product is getting stale IMO and I’m not the only one. Most games are defensive slogs, wrestling and teams pushing the ten metres constantly are making it boring, they tried to address this one season till the media whinged and whinged about penalties and who caved to them? Told the refs to cut it out mid season? Greenberg.
Edit: The jury is out what V’landys will do but a shitload more confidence in him to get the game financially well than Greenberg or grant or Dave Smith. V’landys track record with the nsw harness club and racing nsw is outstanding over a long period of time.
Yep, burning it on useless sh*t like school programs, junior footy, government and sponsorship engagement, etc. All of that useless sh*t.
We need to go back to the good ol' days when the game was run out the back room of the pub by brain damaged ex-players.
Is making money out of racing, whose sole source of revenue gambling, an accomplishment?
Dennis Fitzgerald could run it at a profit.
Have the schools responded to the requests sent from the Development Officer?school programs?
I have kids in school here in Sydney
1 in year 9
1 in 5
Not once has the NRL been to the school in the entire time.
The sharks have- that was a club run thing though.
It was nothing to do with junior league.
Have the schools responded to the requests sent from the Development Officer?
It’s not as easy as rocking up to the school and saying ‘we’re here’ anymore.
Both the NRL and the schools have hoops to jump through and a lot of teachers/schools throw it in the too hard basket.
Well the NRL development officers contact schools every year to visit.well
The sharks come.
It’s like once a year and purely to get support for the club.
It’s nothing to do with joining a team.
The players do run a few drills but they use all sharks logo gear.
the AFL come every year
Last year they did after school camps.
I know because my kid went to it.
4 arvo sessions
They got a football and some blue tooth speakers.
Then I copped multiple follow up calls about the kids joining a league.
Well the NRL development officers contact schools every year to visit.
It’s up to the schools to take up that offer.
Also, they invite schools to play in local competitions, again up to the schools to take up the offer
I’m not sure what you’re saying, but the NRL development officers do the two things that I said. What?
Invites Local competitions?
Ha
The bloody clubs do ALL the advertising to get players.
The NRL do none of it.
I’m not sure what you’re saying, but the NRL development officers do the two things that I said.
I feel that there is a definite disconnect between the officers and clubs, as usually the programs run at schools don’t have NRL players involved.
The NRL definitely could improve their school program, but if there is no NRL presence at a school, I’d be inclined to think it was the school’s choice.

We get sharks players ( occasionally one the kids have even heard of) come out.IF the nrl can’t get at kids in schools they should be desperately trying to get them another way. The panthers school program has absolutely no trouble getting players into schools. Quite frankly if the nrl is taking no for an answer from schools they are more inept then even I thought.

That is all coming from the sharks.
Players came to club footy training once last year.
That may have been a NRL thing ... but the kids are already signed up to weekend footy.
I’d say the school does respond to these invitations but the NRL is so pathetically inept and understaffed that only a very small percentage of schools benefit.
A simple example of the difference between the AFL and NRL and their clubs when just 'engaging' with their jnrs...
In 2019, the NSWPSSA AFL Chamionships held in Sydney had numerous players from both the Sydney Swans and GWS attend and mingle with participants and watch the kids play.
In 2019, the NSWPSSA RL Championships were held at St Marys in Sydney. Not 1 NRL player was in attendance and this was after numerous calls to clubs in the hope a couple players may have been able to attend for a few hours over the chamionships.
In 2019, the National Primary Games were once again held in Tamworth over 2 days with 500+ league players from 8 to 14 yrs participating. There was no NRL presence. None. This carnival runs annually and is attended by clubs from Brisbane to Sydney and west to Dubbo.
In 2019, the finals of the AFL's Paul Kelly Cup (open to all NSW primary schools) was held at Giants Stadium. Both male and female AFL players were in attendance to speak in interview format between games talking of their experiences in AFL from kids to their present day playing status. They had photos with the kids, walked around and mingled with the crowd etc.
Channel 7 have been partners with AFL for 25 years or more, they could see the mutual benefit of working together. Nein were never a partner of Rugby League, it was always a cash cow to them.4 contributions/initiatives there.
And who were the influencers/stakeholders who championed all of those expenditures ? Could it have been the media ? The media who are an alleged stakeholder.
Time to realise the buyers of the broadcast rights are merely purchasers (not stakeholders or partners in the game).
