Every other fullback makes that tackle. Are you new to rugby league?

Seriously, this is what bores me with this debate, the blind exaggeration to try and win an argument.

Fullbacks on every team get beaten because they're isolated in one on one situations. Was it a great tackle? No. Would I like to see better? Absolutely.

Barba had enough space on the inside to drive a truck though, if Tomkins overcommits then he steps inside and people are still pissing and moaning. Barba used that to his advantage, got Tomkins off balance which allowed the fend to be effective.

Not with a giant fend and strength you haven't - he beats them with speed, swerve etc - he had no space, and either morphed into Inglis, or Tomkins was flat out incompetent...

Sorry, he makes significant mistakes pretty much every week...

Anyway, I've reached my conclusion, clearly people are split, and I hope I am proven wrong - but these are basic things that ANY fullback should be able to do, and while he's useful on attack, he's no Lockyer in that regard

Only had 1 look, but I thought it was more a case of Tomkins being caught on the back foot, never getting into a decent position to tackle Barba and stumbling off balance- nothing to do with Barba's strength or fend

Nope, not new... but clearly have misread Tomkins - these f**k ups are to be expected and excused every week, and he's actually brilliant, wouldn't want anyone else in the #1 - sorry, my bad... tackling is hard, Barba is a brute and deceptively strong, high balls are diabollically difficult, as are grubbers, and positional sense...

Not the way I saw it... anyway, we won - I just worry that in tight games this will cost us, it's not the first time his mistake has cost 6 pts

Are some of you fair dinks? Like seriously, I've seen many a fullback try and make a last ditch tackle... and fail. He stopped a couple of breaks as well. Honestly, there's some people in this forum (mainly the NRL one) who would post if Sam took a dump and it didn't come out like gold.

I mean seriously, one try and some blokes on this forum are claiming that shows that Barba has been more effective than Tomkins this season. Are you for real? Barba has been dreadful all year. As for defence, Barba has been trampled over on many an occasion this year, and before this year as well.

 and completely ignore the rest of my post just so you can use sarcasm to dismiss it.

Maybe not new to rugby league, but a well structured debate is clearly foreign territory.

I thought Tomkins had a fine game. Sure, the Barba tackle was weak- but everything else was fine

So did I. Much higher involvement through the middle of the field. Sure, I want more from him, but FFS there's some serious tall-poppy blindness going on here.

I've never seen Barba beat a fullback 1 on 1 before

No. I've never seen it happen. Ever. How he has 75 NRL tries is beyond me...

Must be he ran past fullbacks? Surely that can't be right... I mean, Tomkins is the only fullback to miss a tackle one on one after a long line break with no cover defence to help hold up a play... At least, thats what JJ seems to think. Maybe Tomkins dumped his sister or something.

First 3 mins is enough. My favourite part is when he gets Matai off balance and bumps him off. That wasn't even one on one. No fullback misses in there though.

That was a shocker from Tomkins today. No doubt he needs to pack on some muscle in the off season. Barba is not a big guy by any means but he made Tomkins look like a fool.

I'm willing to give him a long chance to warm up, but if he's not right by the end of the season I'm very disappointed.

Thing is, if he just went low and made an ineffective but normal tackle it would be alright. That gay standing up and grabbing the top half of the body is stupid, especially against a small guy like Barba who you don't need to go high on.

I know he's a small guy but surely there's a better way to tackle people than his current style? Why haven't the coaches addressed this?

Definatley think he's trying to hard , but he was put in a position on the back foot where Reed made the break and fusitua went down injured.

Frustrating to watch , but still willing to persevere with him , he's a hell of a lot more involved than Locke was

Give the man time , we've put up with worst from Manu

While dreamers strop off over every little imperfection , Tomkins goes on making Hurrell the most lethal weapon in the NRL.

Fret away....we won....Tomkins set Konrad in for another class Try that takes timing skill and vision no Warrior has had on tap since Stacey Jones.

The whole thing makes me Lmao
Wait till Hoffman gives Tomkins and Chad options on the left.

The Broncos came tonight with everything they had, that was the fastest opening forty of the season.

The Warriors took the lead when Tomkins injected himself in the line and found an angle for Hurrell.

If people want to go back to that bowl over circus globe trotter rubbish in place of playmaker genius I'm not missing it one little bit.

The Broncs were incredible tonight. Great game.....Tomkins was a primary driver in us winning it.

I'm not sure how you can call that a fine game.

Apart from that Barba incident he had a tricky but catchable Mateo offload which he coughed up, had that been taken he would have scored untouched. Sorry but that's 6-12 points coughed up.

Hitups weren't effective, ran around in circles.
Did some good work in defensive and a couple of good assists to his outside men.

All in all another seriously average showing at best.

I definitely agree with Barba being rubbish, he isn't better than Tomkins by any stretch.

But that doesn't stop it from being a terrible attempt to tackle him, Tomkins had two clean shots on him and got completely owned. I can understand fullbacks missing the last tackle and its not expected to nail every opponent who makes a break.

But Barba hadn't really got away with great pace, and especially after bouncing off the fend Tomkins should have been able to cover him the second time.

And we're talking about a little guy like Barba ffs, it was pretty hopeless.
Not a lack of effort, just didn't have the technique and power.
