I say this at the end of every season. Making the finals is NOT the goal. The goal is, and has to be, winning the premiership. Being happy because your team made 8th, 7th,
6th place etc, is accepting mediocrity, and in many cases on this board, actually celebrating it. Nothing less than winning the bloody thing is acceptable.

Making the finals shouldn't be *the* goal but it can certainly be *a* goal

We're not going to suddenly burst out one year and win the premiership, it will take a couple of seasons of building. I think its fine to be happy with seasons like 02, 03 (somewhat), 08, 2011 ... the disappointing part is that we failed to kick on and do anything with seasons 05, 09, 12 etc despite having a quality and settled team with plenty of form

Baby steps.

This year we didn't really improve at all from last year, so its a let down

I think Skinner may agree, almost 20 years of baby steps now, time to show up and deliver as a mature club.

Most concerning for me is the statement that we are not strongly recruiting.

We don't have a squad to do well next year - we showed that this year.

This, we have the players to win, reminds me of Bluey's famous last words: We don't need SBW, we have the squad to win. Yeah right. Bye bye Bluey.

I want to see a bit of urgency, direction and accountability. McFadden no longer fills me with confidence. The rest of management have already proven they are benchwarmers.

I rue the day we were too impatient to get Bellamy when we had him on the hook.

I disagree with that, at full strength there is no reason we shouldn't be in the top four. This isn't the bad old days where we had to field our Staladis and Pethybridges. Everyone from 1-17 is a strong top level player if playing to their ability.

We lack experience, but most of all we lack on field direction and leadership. I don't even think the coach is the problem. Who are the talkers and organisers in the team? Our heads drop off way too easily.

I strongly believe we're one or two key guys away from gluing this bunch together into a finals capable team.

I must admit that I expected alot from Sam and have been slightly dissapointed with how his first season ended, however I would like to defend him from alot of the criticism he has received both on this forum and in the media. Take for example Matt Moylan and everyone saying how good he has been and he is a superstar in the making lets compares stats as they have both played the same amount of games.

Tomkins Moylan

Tries 13 8
Try Assists 13 17
Avg Runs 14.17 12.79
Avg Run Metres 117.38 116.46
Tackle Busts 107 66
Offloads 18 24
L/B's 11 12
L/B Assists 18 18

Not much difference IMO?? I'm looking forward to Sam bulking up a little next season and honing those combinations over the off-season.

7kg weight difference and it doesn't record slipping over in play.
Average running meters 8.3m to 9.2m might explain it thought?

Those stats also don't record errors and miss tackles. Plus you're comparing a rookie with a supposed super star. Did we once see this season Tomkins catch a high ball ujder pressure and return it for good metres like Moylan did tonight?

You can only win the premiership by making the finals. If you are playing well enough come the end of the year, I completely believe that you can win it from anywhere.

Most of all its great as a fan to have your team in the finals, and with now three seasons in a row missing out its a reasonable goal just to make it. Need to remember that for next season, just want to make the 8 please!

Ask the Broncos fans this morning - they gonna be happy, the ones I know certainly are not.

Just to be pedantic only one of them was in there rookie NRL season and I'll give you the tip his initials are not MM. But I get what you're saying.

OK, looked a bit like a skull from the quick close up on the MOM interview with Lockyer, but still a butterfly at a distance!
To much time on his hands apparently.

I'm sure he's got Polynesian/Maori tatts on his forearm that weren't there when he arrived for preseason last year. Hopefully he's warming to NZ and it's culture
