from the '90s it would be better to include radiohead and my bloody valentine than matchbox 20 and savage garden

Where the hell is Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction? That album deserves to be there for sales, and impact on the music scene alone

Hmm....Guns 'n' Roses are overrated for mine. Some good songs but nothing that really stands out. I never saw what the big deal was about slash either. A mediocre guitarist at best.

I respect your opinion on guitarists and enjoy many of the same axemen as you. But I'm gonna have to disagree with you on Slash. He touches my soul with his wailing.

EG, You don't need to be a good guitarist to play a good sound, some riffs are quite simply, yet still very good IMO. As DIG has said.

Case in pont Kurt Cobain. Good melodies and riffs, but simple to play.

Making good musics consists of either of the 2 essential items IMO, being able to write a good riff (or song) and being able to play a good riff (or song).

They don't have to be hard to play to be good.

If you've ever seen the movie "Eddie and hte Cruisers" you will know what I mean.

Bob Dylan is a very good song writer, particularly of folk music.

But he cant sing for shit.

His voice sounds like a muffler scraping along the road.

El Garbo

Interesting list, thanks for posting it...

Do you know how it was derived? I'd suspect it was constructed from a readers' poll, but it could have been arrived at through the views of the magazine's music writers?

Thanks

DiG & Twizzle, I know what you're saying, but I'm speaking from a personal stand point. When a musician can send a shiver up my spine, I take notice. Slash was never that musician to me. He's competent, but I wouldn't go any firther than that.

Like I said, it's just a personal opinion.

Halfy, you shoosh now. Led Zeppelin were awesome in their time.

Actually... they asked something like 280 of the music industry's heavyweights to compile a list of the 50 (I think) albums they thought were the best, then compiled the results and created the list.

Among the people asked were musicians, producers, CEOs of record companies, music journalists... among others. The whole list reads more like a 'Most Influential CDs of All Time' list as opposed to 'Best CDs' but I suppose that's to be expected given the nature of the polling.
