Bentley to The Lane

We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Blackburn Rovers for the transfer of David Bentley.

The England international made 133 appearances for the Ewood Park side - scoring 21 goals - after initially joining on loan from Arsenal in August 2005, the move being made permanent in January 2006.
The 23-year-old has now won six senior England caps after previously representing his country at B, Under-21 and Under-20 level.

clicky

good signing but we paid way too much imo, (17mill)

Whilst I thought 17 million maybe a bit high for Bentley(dont know exactly how long his contract with Blackburn was though)you'd think his best years are in front of him and he's already appeared for England). In comparison Liverpool were/are looking at 18 million for Barry and just forked out 19 million(plus bonuses) for Keane(both around 28).
Beats the hell out of me why English clubs wouldnt have a crack at David Silva who's supposed to be valued at around 17 million also.(maybe they think he's lazy or something).
If Bentley delivers on his promise you have a good buy.If not you have a heap of midfield cover and could still sell him at a reasonable price because he'll still be an England squad player.(and I know some on here dont think that foreign quota for players has a hope in hell of getting up but some MP is apparantly going to back a bill in the English Parliament).Never say never.

Keane played 45 mins for Liverpool this morning.

I think he's a better player than Bentley now but in 2 or 3 years time who knows?
One guy will be 25 the other 30.

Keane is a striker, Bently a right mid

Opens up a separate debate.(no offence intended because I think I know where your coming from)
1.Will Keane play striker at Liverpool(I hope so but its Rafa so dont rule out a Dirk Kuyt role-dont start me).
2.Strikers used to be worth more than right sided midfielders. Not always these days.First guy that comes to mind is that guy from Manure.
Who would be worth more Ronaldo or Rooney(who plays a role that may be similar to what Rafa would want Keane to play).
Both pretty young and normally English players go for inflated pices(IMO).
Got no doubt the Potugese guy would go for more.
3.Lopsided example maybe but even amongst a lot of the lower clubs the value of strikers and right sided midfielders is diminshing.Pick out any club.Could be supply and demand as there seems to be a heap of strikers an no Right midfielders.Again using Liverpool as an example but struth we've been chasing one for years and still cant find a decent one.
4.Where does that guy who took off to the USA for a squillion (used to play no 7 for Manure and married some Spice Girl) play?

fair point but it may depend on how Rafa wants to use him

One thing about Robbie is his versatility

Often we would bring on our third striker (Bent or Defoe) with 15 to go instead of dragging Robbie, he would drop back to an attacking mid and we'd drag one of our crap midfielders off.

From what I can gather Bentley is a RM.

The only negative about Robbie, apart from the perennial arm flapping and bitching to the umpires, is that he will not score by headers for some reason, just not his strength

no doubt you guys will give him better service from your midfield, as ours was rubbish

apparently a bad injury in Wednesday nights trial, every one pretty hush hush

people ITK at THFC saying the extent of the injury not completely known yet, some saying he's finished

its a waiting game atm

we've just made a pretty fair bid for Collocini in the last few days, and he was all but a done deal for the barcodes which has heightened the speculation

all just rumours of course :D

hi

just like to say i've jumped on the bandwagon.

my family is from derby and brighton. niether team is going near the top flight any time soon.

so i decided i should follow a team.

i put all the teams on a piece of paper and drew one out of a hat lotto style.

pulled out spurs.

so yeah. what is a realistic goal for them this season? i see they have picked up Modric but lost Keane.

cheers.

a realistic goal is grabbing the last champs league spot..... they have to atleast grab a euro cup spot if they cnt get that

And they picked up

Giovanni Dos Santos ( Good mexican kid from barca)
Luka Modric ( One of Croatia's Brightest talents and a good play maker)
David Bentley ( Right midfielder from blackburn and ex Gunners Trainee)

Lost Robbie Keane and may lose Berbatov But may Get Sammy Eto instead

Eto is not on our radar atm, but who knows ?

Great 2-0 win last night over Celtic, who barely gave our new keeper any work at all and they were basically at full strength

Bent in again, just cant stop him atm, and Bentley got his first goal for Spurs, and Berby taking up space running around in circles still sulking. I hope he f**ks off soon, pathetic and very unprofessional attitude.

add Bostock and Gomes to that

we seem to be the most active club in the transfer market, expect about 7 to 9 new players in total

definitely aiming at the 4th Euro spot, that was part of the arrangement in signing Ramos, and we've supported him by spending sh*t loads

also means that anything lower than about 6th spot will be a failure according to Ramos so he is putting alot of pressure on himself

SPURS chairman Daniel Levy has been branded a hypocrite by angry Seville president Jose Maria Del Nido.

Del Nido is still fuming over the way coach Juande Ramos was lured to White Hart Lane last year.
And he is stunned by Levy’s complaints about the behaviour of Manchester United and Liverpool in their respective bids for Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane.
Del Nido rapped: “It is hypocrisy personified Tottenham are complaining about things they have done themselves.
“They took away our manager and now they are complaining that others are trying to take their players.
“Their style is demonstrated by the way they contracted Ramos.”
Seville are still pursuing Ramos for £3million compensation after he walked out last October.
Spurs were left red-faced when a group of directors, including Levy, were discovered in meetings with Ramos while Martin Jol was still boss.
