Trade Ivan to Penrith for 2019

I agree along with quite a few Panthers supporters that it is unethical. But it isnt illegal. If the shoe was on the other foot & we were talking about Nathan running out in Tigers colours next year I would be as pissed off as you guys are. The only thing I am happy about is the fact we are becoming ruthless chasing success. As for Ivan's ethics we really dont know. All we can be sure of is the idea of returning to Penrith was discussed, there is no clarity on what the time frame was, Ivan went straight to Tigers management and let them know what took place. Why he has acted as he is in the media is up for debate, is he under instruction to shutup and tow the line until the Tigers decide how they want to play it? Who knows. The bloke is clearly uncomfortable discussing it, it appears to me he is acting under instructions.

Personally I would have preferred none of this happened. I was stoked when you guys signed Ivan, because I figured he could do for you what he did for us. Set the foundation for something sustainable. I would also have rather waited until his contract was nearly up to approach him about reuniting with Nathan. Not particularly on moral grounds, but to give NC 2 more years to establish himself as a top line player before working with his old man. We should have been the ones trying to get creeping jesus for the next 2 years.

Good and fair post.

The only thing I disagree with is that Ivan came to the club 2 weeks after him returning to the Panthers was discussed. This was admitted by Gould when it all came out.

It’s very rare indeed for a club to sack a coach and then re-hire him later on. I think the illustrious Wayne Bennett is the only other example that springs to mind.

So far as we know, Pantheria had wonder lad signed, sealed and delivered before ic got his marching orders-but something stinks and I agree with brother, that there is no way we are getting the full story.

The toads press conference about Hook was very telling. He kicked his head in after sacking him a few weeks out from the finals. It was ungracious and unnecessary.

The irony was that but for one game cicada had them playing the same last minute Charlie game. They had one good game and then reality caught up with them and they surrendered without a whimper. So the plan was catastrophic, the timing hopeless and in no way did it help Pantheria.

I think Pascoe ordered ic to tell the world he was committed to wt when in reality, everyone he knew he was on borrowed time. He looked very squirmish and uncomfortable during that conference.

As for recruitment, players change clubs for many reasons. I think a few are influenced by the coach or at least his reputation, but not all. For example, Wade Graham went to the sharks as Gal got into his head. He said that in an interview. Souths had to send rusty and co to England to sign up Burgii.

But players will gather for Bennett. It flatters wt that he has the interest. He must believe the club is in the up. He will deliver a bold new era, it’s very exciting,

I doubt that your club had Nathan signed sealed and delivered.

I was just thinking that in future, all panther fans who post here, should pay tribute to the tigers loss and dissapointment and commence their post with

“ I am very sorry Tigers, my club sucks, but....”

And then go on to say what they want from there.

Show some respect and that they are not backers of the rogue regime that is destroying the game.
The whole things is regrettable, however, none of us knows what is going on behind close doors. Ivan clearly never wanted to leave, and that is evident by him wanting to return. Before you say it, Nathan wasn't his only reason, I suspect.

I must have missed that part in amongst all the other noise. I was of the impression he told the Tigers management of what transpired pretty much immediately. If he sat on it for 2 weeks then that isn't the right thing to do. He may have needed time to think about what he really wanted before discussing it. I can understand it, but being open with those that sign your paycheck is the right move.

“I’m on the bus with Ivan!”, they are selling these as novelty (sarcastic) t shirts now.

He sat on it and was found out.

He mutters a word about integrity and honesty to panther players and they will barely be able to contain themselves.

He’s got no respect anymore.

He’s totally discredited.

Yep..2 weeks....talking to the ex that threw you out about getting back together behind the back of your new partner who took you in off the street and put their entire faith and belief in you after you asked for it.. ...flowery but it's EXACTLY like that

I think perhaps there is a little re-writing of history here.

The media reported that Cleary sought out the board about the offer from Penrith within 24-48 hours.

He did wait a time before he fronted the NRL media and read his prepared statement. This I suspect was a strategy because of legal advice recieved and the legal letter from W/T. https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/08/07...rm-deal-to-ivan-cleary-to-leave-wests-tigers/

Ivan will be the subject of whispers and doubt whatever he says or does. He speaks with forked tongue.

The players might lie and mislead him because they think he’s about that himself.

Honesty is key to leadership.

That’s why we all hate politicians.

He went to the Tigers board after our board sacked the coach. Two weeks after having a meeting about his son. News came out about a meeting with Penrith, which lead to Griffins early exit, and he wanted to assure Tigers management that there was a meeting that Penrith initiated the possible return. Ivan has been very professional in all this. The thing is, the timing was always at the end of his current contract. Tigers went stupid with compensation claims. Tigers claiming wrong doing. Ivan will still be your coach for the next two years...if you want him there. All legal. No good guy, bad guy. Just business.

If anyone has been offended by my posts, I have to assure you that:

A) I did not mean to offend and without admissions, I apologise to those I offended.

B) I have been enjoying everyone’s points on this thread, even the panther ones ( however wrong they are!)

C) I have no personal animosity for panthers or their fans , Ivan, Gus or Nathan and everything I have said has been intended only for humourous and fair use purposes. No actual reliance should be placed the truthfulness of my representations. All posts I have made have been for entertainment purposes only.

I have no connection or association with wt or lu in anyway beyond this forum and some hard core tigers mates.

Those of you I offended, I insist that you to put me on ignore so that I do not reoffend you.

Thank you for considering this post.

Deep down, Pilot House is easy with everyone.

Now on with the show!

I wish these panther people would stop pissing on your backs and telling you it’s raining.

They sent out emissarys to steal your coach while he was under contract and when he had options for further years with tigers.

That’s not business, that’s theft.

Oh dear you sound like the bloke who was sure that the young 'hottie' that smiled at him was really interested in spending time with him.

Actually she was just holding in a fart, and you mistook it for lust.

(perhaps this story bears a little resemblence to the Nathan story ) :p

Deary me Alice,

You guys stole their coach and are in here flogging their fans to death too.

If this is the new panthers, please bring back roger and Feltis, Royce to coach.

Girls don’t fart either. It’s most unbecoming.

They don't ? They have 'bottom burps'. Now on the subject of death. Poor Roger is no longer with us, Roycie and Don have set themselves up in the retirement complex which is near completion called funnily enough 'The Royce'.

Now would you like 'white ladys' to conduct the funeral on your behalf. :p

Thank goodness the nice and gentle Panthers are gone for good. :)

The ghost of roger is known to make shadow puppets against the floodlights during the night matches. They depict terry wickey and Mick Kelly junior.

Royce got entangled with Adamson in a nasty scrap. Feltis is eying off his collection of big league 1976. A life member I think.

The white ladies are owned by Americans. Plenty of good Aussie undertakers to chose from. We do death as well as anyone else.

As for things of the bottom, I see humour in the reference, but the mods have asked me to care for people’s sensitivities and I am a guest here on tigers lu like you I guess!

And btw folks, Thus “new aggro panthers, it’s a bit like grandma waving her knitting needles at you.

Aggro panthers?! Give us a break.

Just be quiet panthers and let the rest of us steal your good juniors as per usual.

Your place in the game is to always bring up good players for the rest of us to pick up for $2 because you can’t see the wood for the trees.

That is your destiny and meaning to the nrl. Don’t be confused and think you are there to actually compete! What gave you that idea merkins?!

These panthers are quiet all year, you’d think they were asleep. Then they wake up, hurt another club, pat themselves on the back and go back into hibernation.

Joke of a club. More like a Nuremberg rally full of clowns dispersed with sheep. Gus is there at the top of the rally, saluting. Zieg Growell.

Been professional? He read a 30 second prepared statement 5 days after news broke and the rumour mill went into overdrive and has refused to answer a single question from a journalist since.

Griffin was signed until 2020, if he was still your coach and this week signed with Brisbanefor 2021, I imagine you’d be sweet with him staying until then?

I don't get why Panthers didn't just line up Maguire to coach from when they sacked Griffin. A good coach is a good coach. Madge has a better strike rate than Clearly anyway. Are the Panthers really that determined to make the Cleary family fairytale come true? So many potential problems with father coaching son.
