Grella completes Blackburn transfer

August 27, 2008
AUSTRALIA midfielder Vince Grella has signed a four-year deal with Blackburn Rovers after completing his transfer move from Torino.

The 29-year-old will join fellow Socceroos player Brett Emerton at Ewood Park in the English Premier League after Rovers reportedly agreed to a £4 million (A$8.6 million).
After a decade in the Italian Serie A, Grella could make his Premier League debut as early as this weekend against Lucas Neill's West Ham United.
"Rovers have this evening completed the signing of Australian midfielder Vince Grella from Torino on a four-year deal,'' a statement on Blackburn's website confirmed.
Grella began his European career with Empoli in the Serie A in 1998 before moving to Parma in 2004, where he was joined by fellow Socceroo Mark Bresciano, and then to Torino in 2007.

Wright-Phillips back at Man City

August 29, 2008
MANCHESTER City has completed the signing of their former winger Shaun Wright-Phillips from Chelsea.
Wright-Phillips has signed a four-year contract at Eastlands having rejoined for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year old told the club's website: "Obviously I'm delighted to come back to City and I can't wait to get started again."

City manager Mark Hughes added: "I've always admired Shaun and he's been a target of mine since I came to the club."

The winger left City to join Chelsea for £21m in July 2005, but struggled to hold down a regular place in his three years in London.

Making only 43 Premier League starts and scoring four times, he fell out of England reckoning too.
"To actually secure the deal and bring Shaun back home is a fantastic coup for us," said Hughes.

"I'm sure the supporters will be just as excited as we are to have him back at Manchester City."

In a previous spell at City, Wright-Phillips made 181 appearances and scored 31 times.

Should be in the rumours thread but the big overnight rumour is Berba -> Bayern.

Does that make sense? Competing against Klose, Toni, Podolski, Schlaudruff...surely he would be better off staying at the Toots.

Saha confirmed to Everton.

Saha completes Toffees switch

Louis Saha has completed his move to Everton after signing a two-year deal with the Toffees.

The striker, who also has the option of a third year at Goodison Park, successfully passed a medical over the weekend and has joined for an undisclosed fee. He will wear the No.9 shirt for his new club.

The 30-year-old netted 42 goals in 124 appearances for the Reds during his four-and-a-half-year career at Old Trafford, including a debut strike against Southampton in January 2004. But after a promising start he endured a torrid time with injuries and spent prolonged periods on the sidelines.

Saha is looking forward to the challenges ahead with his new club, but admits he is sad at the way his time at Old Trafford ended.

"I am quite disappointed my time with United has finished like this, with so many injury problems," he told the official Everton website. "But I am very happy a club of Everton's stature have shown they are interested in me.

"There is European football for one thing, and I was very impressed when I spoke to their manager David Moyes. He told me exactly how he wanted me to play. He was very honest with me.

"I also spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson and he said it would be good for me to sign for Everton because I would get the chance to play more than at United. He also thought it would help my fitness if I was playing every week."

Everyone at Old Trafford would like to wish Louis all the best for the future.

Absolutely incredible signing for Citeh. Robinho is a fine player, they will be a force to be reckoned with Man City - they are in the top four, will anyone be able to move them? Excellent defence, great wingers, and very good in the middle of the park, and the addition of Jo bolsters there strike force.
