Manchester City believe they are close to the £20m signing of Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.

City are also battling it out with rivals Manchester United for the signature of Argentine forward Carlos Tevez, who has been on a loan deal at Old Trafford.

Tevez will decide in the next seven days where his future lies, after United made a final take-it-or-leave-it offer to the 25-year-old.

Chelsea have made a last-ditch £70m offer for AC Milan forward Kaka.

The Blues are hopeful that Kaka's personal demands may also price Real Madrid out of the market.

However, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has admitted that Madrid are favourites to land the Brazil star.

But new Chelsea manager and former AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti has not given up on signing Kaka and even phoned the Brazilian and begged him not to join Real.

However, Chelsea have denied making a world record £73.5m bid for the Brazilian but say they still expect to make a major signing this summer.

If Chelsea miss out on Kaka then that acquisition could be his AC Milan team-mate Alexandre Pato and will offer £38m for the 19-year-old striker.

However, Chelsea could also go after Samuel Eto'o after he was made available by Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

The Blues are also targeting Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery and Valencia forward David Villa.

Chelsea have opened talks with Portsmouth to re-sign right-back Glen Johnson in a deal that could be worth £17m.

Blues midfielder Deco is on the verge of a move to Inter Milan on a free transfer.

Arsenal are closing in on the £10m signing of Ajax centre-half Thomas Vermaelen.

But Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor could be on his way to AC Milan with the Italian side set to bid £15m for the Togo international.

AC Milan and Barcelona are lining up Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic in a £25m deal.

Real Madrid have tabled a £20m bid for unsettled Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are interested in Middlesbrough forward Tuncay.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez has also met with Valencia forward David Silva this week and is keen to bring the Spaniard to Anfield.

The Merseyside club have also offered Portsmouth £2m for defender Sylvain Distin.

Aston Villa have bid £7m for Atletico Madrid midfielder Jose Manuel Jurado.

Villa are also interested in bringing former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb back to the Premier League from Barcelona in a £10m deal.

Manchester United trio, striker Fraizer Campbell, full-back Danny Simpson and midfielder Darron Gibson have been placed on the transfer list at Old Trafford.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is to make a fresh £5m bid for Manchester City centre-back Richard Dunne.

Pato for 38 million?

Wow. Milan would be laughing.

Srna is quality and would easily slot into any EPL side imo, tbh I wouldn't say no to Neil at Arsenal. He can't be worse than that geriatric Silvestre.

no way in hell will Milan let Pato go,

Kaka can leave for 70mill or what ever but Pato is a better prospect imo and still only 19

he's obviously more than a prospect, he plays for Milan and Brazil and Chelski are after him

19 goals this year (I think), he's pretty much proved what he is capable of

No Arsene buys them for little or nothing, makes them great, then sells them when they reach 30.

sterjovski -> perth glory

PERTH Glory's new marquee player Mile Sterjovski says his return home has sparked plenty of interest within the Socceroos camp and he predicts more big names will follow.
Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has previously made no secret of his preference for players to be competing in stronger European leagues rather than the A-League.
But Sterjovski says Verbeek's "supportive" attitude helped convince him to sign a three-year deal with the Glory after struggling to get game time before being let go by English Championship club Derby County.
The Dutchman's main concern was that he play regular football - and keep playing after the A-League finished ahead of the 2010 World Cup finals.
Sterjovski, who scored in Australia's 2-0 win over Bahrain on Wednesday, indicated fellow Socceroos were intrigued by his move home.
"There has been a few words spoken in camp and I think you'll see quite a few players coming back in the future," said 30-year-old Sterjovski at his Glory signing announcement in Sydney on Friday.
"There's a few (Socceroos) players who are quite envious. That's good signs.
"I've always said I wanted to come back and I think I've come back at a good age.
"I spoke to Pim at length about it. He was very supportive," added Sterjovski.
"He understood my situation. It's only going to benefit me coming back because I'm going to be playing more games.
"The only problem for me (at Derby County) was I wasn't playing enough games and that's going to be important for me in the next season."
Sterjovski had previous playing stints in France, Switzerland and Turkey before making the move to England in 2008.
His signing with the Glory sees him reunited with coach Dave Mitchell who mentored the midfielder during earlier stints with NSL clubs Sydney United and Parramatta Power.
The Glory have also recruited fellow Socceroo Jacob Burns from Romanian club Unirea Urzicini and ex-Derby defender Andy Todd.
They join Gold Coast's Jason Culina on the list of Socceroos hopefuls prepared to take their chances playing in Australia ahead of the 2010 World Cup.
Asked if he was taking a risk over World Cup selection, Sterjovski said: "I don't think so.
"I've been a professional for quite a long time now. I know what it takes to play at that level.
"So as long as I maintain that standard, it's not going to be a problem.
"The most important thing for Pim was that I was playing regular football and to make sure that at the end of the A-League season, that I continue playing until the World Cup.
"That was the only major issue."

Sterjovski says he's yet to investigate his playing options for next year in the build-up to the World Cup in South Africa in June.
Perth's regular season finishes in mid-February, with the final on March 20. The Glory hope to be involved in the playoffs after finishing a lowly seventh last season.
Sterjovski stopped short of urging Mark Viduka to play in the A-League after falling out of contract with relegated English Premier League side Newcastle.
The big striker wasn't available for selection in Australia's 30-man squad to play Qatar, Bahrain and Japan.
Asked if Socceroos veterans should look at returning home, Sterjovski said: "Yeah of course I'd encourage it.
"But everybody has different situations. I can't really speak for Mark on whether he'd want to come back," he said.
