The Malaga goalkeeper might sign with Manchester City in the coming days. And Toni Kroos has apparently signed with Real Madrid

I think Markovic is set to join Liverpool Jack. I'm reaaaaaally pissed off about Sanchez though. It's just disappointing that we were unable to use the world's 3rd best player as as bait (which doesn't happen every day) to get Sanchez. Oh well. They better make up for it with all the Suarez money...

Yep, I read this morning that Chelsea don't want to take up the option to buy Markovic now. Benfica can now sell and Chelsea will get a small % of the fee we pay if we do buy him.

Can't help it if Sanchez doesn't want to come to Liverpool mate. Sanchez was always going to be a separate deal to Suarez. All this swap talk was nonsense. Not sure what you mean by "they better make up for it with the Suarez money". We need to be sensible and not just rush to soend.

Just trust that the club know what they are doing, who's to say we won't blow the Suarez money and waste it to some extent like the spuds did with the Bale $$$. We'll get a few more targets obviously just don't hold out for an out and out superstar to replace Luis. Last I read we were targeting Huntelaar of The Netherlands.

I know we can't help it, but it's nevertheless really disappointing. The only thing I could really see in Arsenal which they have over Liverpool at the moment is the city lifestyle...and maybe better wages, but hey, money talks (though not to all players).

I don't think the swap deal stuff was nonsense at all. If Sanchez were willing to choose Liverpool, I fully believe that he would have been involved in the deal. It's a possible facet of the deal that has been raised in every single news source; and where there's smoke, there's fire. The Suarez deal has apparently stalled a little in the last few days, and IMO, it's because Sanchez was being a prick

What I meant by hoping they 'make up for it', is I mean that I hope they compensate for missing out on Sanchez, by using the Suarez cash to buy some quality, proven players. I'm not really holding out for a single 31 goal superstar to replace Luis, I'm just hoping that we land a few great players that can greatly contribute, and make this team more balanced, rather than us being on reliant on a single player to make a big title challenge. All of our competitors are starting to strengthen well this summer (especially Chelsea so far), so it's important that we don't get left behind.

I hope the club do know what they are doing, and have learnt from the past mistakes of 2002 and 2009. One positive thing to look at is that I think there'll be brand new transfer targets who will emerge soon, once the Suarez money has come in. I think knowing the fact that Suarez is leaving has given them the freedom to just splash 25 million on Markovic. So basically put, BR has pulled the trigger on a number of 50/50 deals like Markovic and Origi because there will still be a whole lot more cash to spend, and that fact only really became certain after the bite. What IMO is definite is that Markovic is not the player we are banking on to come in here and immediately change the game for us.

Thing is that is what Tottenham aimed to do with the money they got from Gareth Bale's sale to Real Madrid and look at how that turned out. Suarez was one of LFC's key players and there is no real depth in the striking department behind him and Sturridge. They will need to find a quality replacement for him, and quality strikers don't come cheap.

With the Bale money, they went crazy and bought at least 6 players wasn't it? With the Suarez dosh, I'm hoping for around 2 players, 3 at the absolute most, not what spurs did. 2-3 expensive players who make an instant impact.

I think Spurs issues was a bit more complex.

Soldado was a failure, Lamella was injured for most of the season. Add that to the managerial expertise of AVB, then Sherwood and both should have done better with that squad, but both failed. Playing players out of position, blah, blah, the list goes on.

At least the scousers have a settled manager with EPL experience and a reasonably settled squad. Too many changes and a new manager can be a real problem and I think we proved that as well.

In short, we probably spent too much money, now some of those newbies may be sold prior to the start of the upcoming season.

I think spending on 2 or 3 decent players is all you guys need.

All we need for a title challenge or a top 4 spot? I'd be happy with just another top 4 place for another season. Chelsea and City will be very strong. At least just staying in the top 4 for another year proves to potential transfer targets that we're not a flash in the pan. You made good points about the spurs transfer failure though.

Various sources. FSG want a marquee name at the club and betting sites in the UK have lowered the odds from 25-1 to 7-1 in the past 24 hours.
