Ian, you stuffed up by letting Kurt Mann go as he is an excellent defender, has good footwork and was never given a chance in the troublesome right centre position as your so- called coach had a blind spot for Aitken and underused Mann as a utility. You saw last Sunday when he scored that try against us that, given space, he is elusive and can find his way to the line.

Now that he's gone, we must recruit carefully as the weak SGI right is now common knowledge and all savvy teams are attacking it. So, when recruiting a centre, make sure he can read numbers and preferably count to 13. After that, make sure he is capable of communicating with those on the same side as him and can tackle. Attacking skills are important too but we must fix our defence first.

If no obvious candidate presents himself, give Pereira a go. Like Aitken, he is a strong and bullocking attacker but the little I've seen of him in defence, leads me to believe he could be a gun. He certainly couldn't be any worse than Aitken.

Merrin is halfway through the first of a four-year deal with Leeds, but has been linked with a move to St George Illawarra following Jack de Belin’s ‘no fault’ stand down suspension.

The Rhinos have been struggling this season, winning five of 16 Super League games, their latest coming on the weekend with a 24-22 victory over last-placed London.

“I am here to stay. I signed a four-year deal,” Merrin told Sky Sports.

“Obviously I’ve got personal things going on back home but I’m here to stay and I want to get this club back to where they deserve to be.”
