Merrin probably does have an issue with him. The problem is that this is perceived as a good thing. He's our best forward. we need a coach who will get the best out of our players - especially the absolute best ones ffs. If Mary can't do that without alienating our best then he clearly lacks the ability to man manage and is, as expected, horribly out of his depth.

I can see Trent going very well there under a coach he's obviously keen to play for.

They know how to manage people of all personality and ego types. This is the standard we should be holding our coaches too. Mary is learning how to do this on the job, and it is costing us our best players. Mary, to me, shows all the hallmarks of being another Ricky Stuart, only without the benefit of Gus Gould to help him snare one solitary premiership.

i heard hunt say in an article he has 2 years to run on his contract? I thought his deal finished end of 2015?
We really got caught out with hunt didnt we? And your right, no other team will offer him even remotely close to what he is on with us, so he aint going anywhere.
the merrin situation reminds me alot like the hunt situation, except hunt had 2 excellent years before getting the big contract. Merrin hasnt stepped up yet to fully reach the potential and hype that has surrounded him.
Personally, i dont think he is worth anywhere near what we have offered him, let alone what he thinks he is worth.
And if its true he doesnt get along with mary, then judging by the Hunt article, the blame falls on merrin.

The positve is that if merrin is as good as he thinks, 2015 will be a breakout year for him. Its make or break for him, and being player of the year in 2013 accounts to jack shit, in 2013 nathan green could have got that award the way the team played.
