there’s also the one at Bronte (rubbish) and a couple of other short term options like the ones at Artarmon.
IMO they won’t put him in a three month one. Real good way to open up someone vulnerable to recidivism.

I've got no life experience with any of this stuff but you're right, a footy player doing drugs recreationally doesn't belong in a place with lifelong heroin addicts and the like.

Very few people from that cohort go to rehabs and/or detoxes. That's real old thinking.

There are more people with ATS (amphetamine type substances) dependence or prescribed opioid analgesia dependence in rehabs and detoxes now.

Modern medicine has created a monster with things like codeine, oxycodone, oxycontin, fentanyl etc through over prescribing so that physical rehab KPIs for things like joint replacements can be met and people move through hospitals quickly. We see more and more people entering treatment for opioid use disorder due to prescribed drugs than we do for heroin these days. Same addiction, different judgements and stigmas. As soon as codeine was rescheduled as an S8 controlled drug the people addicted to it and other opioid analgesics were forced out of the woodwork.

although I put shit on “to her door”, the best program in Australia is the Buttery.

real addicts minds are so f**ked up it takes a long time to recover . 9 to 12 months.
Nearly everything else is a on a sliding scale.
Other places like Foundation, Glebe house WHOs are great programs but that is a socio economic choice. There is no good argument to put a footy player in what is a heavy heavy place.
Anyway time will tell and time takes time.

Yeah well, The Buttery as I know it is pretty specialised. Very hard to get a City User in let alone go that far north. Most would be IDATed instead and end up on the North Shore or in Orange.

We got one fella accepted and agreeable to go up to the Buttery. Didn't last. Became trauma, on trauma on trauma to this lad. The trauma he'd had, the trauma he'd created then the trauma he needed to address was too much.

Like I said, had no life dealings with these sorts of addictions thankfully. Those tv series Dopesick and Painkiller open your eyes to the power of the pharmaceutical industry though.
