....
Yeah that sounds about right. So with internet, new zealand, we would have been a little short of $1B, but the game would have been on a station that would have treated it right, played it all the time, all around the country, live and in HD.
And instead we have gone with the same old shit just to get the money. Just to get 1 billion. just to get close to the AFL. Just to keep the players and clubs happy. f**king f**kKKKKKKKKKK
jesus h mothermerkining merkiny f**king merkin
Another positive is that we currently have two less teams than the AFL whilst having a similar amount of money as them. Furthermore they're spending far more to run GCS and GWS than the average AFL club meaning they're burning through that cash faster than we are going to burn through ours.
There was a bidding war this time, as there would have been next time. F+L bid rights doesent mean there is no bidding war, just that Nine had the last bid. And so what, great deals can be done under that system. Just not by the NRL.you are seriosly dumb
ten would have got all 8 and on sold 4
for $200 million less
would there have been a 20 round fixed schedule?
and 9 and Fox would have had first and last rights next time meaning no bidding war
Your opinion is still based on money rather than the game.
It also smells like "you have to lose one to gain one"
We have to put up with 5 years of more of the same horrible shit just so in 5 years time we MAY and i cant emphasis this enough. We MAY get a better deal for the fans.
Channel 10 offered 800mill and wanted to give 4 LIVE FTA games a week, and we knocked that back for 1 LIVE fta game a week, a fixed schedule which still helps the rich get richer and the idea that first/last bid rights mean something.
We just got f**ked and alot of people seem to be OKAY with that cause we got 1 billion.
I feel like somebody shot the puppy i was gonna get for christmas and instead i get $100.
Yes I do, thats for $200m less in direct revenue.
However, it would have been a SHITLOAD more in shirt and ground sponsorship for the clubs, who would have been on TVs through the whole country, who would be able to sell their sponsorships as genuinely national brands. This is millions per club per year.
And for the growth of the game its incalculable. It means that anyone, %100 of households, any casual observer, anyone interested, can turn on and watch the game 4 days a week as it can best be shown, in HD, and in primetime.
All this with a big increase in the amount of money, just not quite as big as we might have hoped.
It was a tradeoff, and we traded very poorly.
This is seriously f**ked.
For f**ks sake. Its first/last Bid rights.
The NRL could still say "no we prefer what X is offering".
People are whinging that a QLD team is locked in for one of the FTA games each friday. Not one person has complained about what you think people are complaining about. So perhaps read a little more.I don't see why people are whinging about the 20 rds of fixed and 6 yet to be determined.
Oh wow. The Clubs might get 2.5 Million.
What does that mean for the fans? Nothing.
.
That's good in theory, but we've had that flexibility since forever, that doesn't stop them dishing out a 13th vs 16th snoozefest on a Friday nightI don't see why people are whinging about the 20 rds of fixed and 6 yet to be determined. At least it gives us the flexibility to be able to see decent games on FTA come that last month and a half of the comp, be f**ked if I wanna see tigers v bulldogs next year in round 26 and they're sitting both last and 2nd last and the sharks v raiders are 1st v 2nd but resigned to the 2nd game on Saturday night Fox because guess what 'we got a fixed schedule' and who would have thought these 2 teams were gonna kick ass in December 2012.........
Hands up if you didn't kill yourself when you heard we were getting 1 billion dollars, were no worse off than before, and no longer had to bow to Nine and Fox in future deals.

Im not guessing about 4 games on TV live, im not guessing about new sponsorship revenue for the clubs, and im not guessing about the growth prospects of the game among people who would have the game beamed into their home for FREE. We could have had the only sport on TV on Monday nights, now we dont even compete on Saturdays evenings.you're guessing. no guarantees
and 9 and Fox would have retained first and last rights
I came pretty close when I heard we could have had 4 live games on FTA with another networkHands up if you didn't kill yourself when you heard we were getting 1 billion dollars, were no worse off than before, and no longer had to bow to Nine and Fox in future deals.
