Crazy that the most vocal complaints are coming from Sharks fans. I don't like playing the "but you support club x" card but fmd the NRL just secured your future as a club in the southern region of Sydney.

In b4 blah blah you support Penrith.

I haven't been following the whole T.v. rights negotiations, but it seems kinda disappointing to be honest. I mean we hit the 1 billion dollar figure but we're still receiving the same old bullshit that we've been receiving for a long time. I guess some positives out of this are the fact that we haven't sold the internet rights, Nz rights and naming rights.

Another positive is that we currently have two less teams than the AFL whilst having a similar amount of money as them. Furthermore they're spending far more to run GCS and GWS than the average AFL club meaning they're burning through that cash faster than we are going to burn through ours. We may look at expanding in a couple of year but next year we'll be in a better position than the AFL financially meaning we can pump a tonne of money into grass roots, promotion etc.

All in all this T.v. deal is only as good as what we choose to do with the money we receive from it.

Just on a side note... Loop who is on the move.

FORMER NRL boss David Gallop has been named new boss of Football Federation Australia.

FFA made the not unexpected announcement today that current chief executive Ben Buckley will step down from the position once the negotiations for the sport’s new television rights deal is completed in around two months time.

It seems even his new employers didn't want to trust him on a TV rights deal.

It was highly unlikely that Nine/Fox were going to lose the rights. But even if they had, would 7/10 do any better, probably not. This is a hell of a lot better deal than the last one. Hopefully it's not wasted and the bargaining position is a lot stronger the next time round. Maybe i,m easliy pleased but the fact you can watch every game, every week pretty much live bar two games. Will do me. Now if we can get rid of Hadley and few others. Bring back Vossy and find some new blood and a fresh start next season would be a good way in moving forward.

Having time to reflect I think what the ARLC is good based on this:

The bar is now set for what we will be paid minimum for future deals. Had we gone with 10 for better coverage at $800million the same coverage in the next deal would see $1billion as a significant step up.

We have now got the bottom figure for next time. With NEWS F&L gone, the NRL can turn to 10 next time and get $1.2 with similar details to what is being talked about this arvo (FRI, SAT, SUN, MON).

We needed to catch the coin of the AFL not the coverage I think otherwise we will always have the MYTHS of 'Rugby League is too short" Can't fit in enough ads" etc etc if we fell short. Now we have proven our worth and caught/surpassed the AFL for $$$/game, the next deal will allow for breaking the networks balls on coverage and then we can have the best of both worlds.

you do realise that's for $200 million less?

better FTA coverage = yes

less money for clubs and development = yes

9 and Fox retain first and last rights = yes

Are you are valuing the other 4 games at zero? Or would 10 get them in the same deal and then on-sell the games ?

Yep. Did I just hear these four games for $800 million over 5 years??
....

Yeah that sounds about right. So with internet, new zealand, we would have been a little short of $1B, but the game would have been on a station that would have treated it right, played it all the time, all around the country, live and in HD.

And instead we have gone with the same old shit just to get the money. Just to get 1 billion. just to get close to the AFL. Just to keep the players and clubs happy. f**king f**kKKKKKKKKKK

What a joke.

Mate if the Sharks died from natural attrition fair enough and it would be no one elses fault but our own. Hence why we are trying so hard to secure a new revenue stream.

My issue with this is as an NRL supporter not a Sharks supporter.

If my concern was motivated out of my own selfishness for the Sharks, then i'd be cheering not questioning.

Very poor use of the club card.
