....

Yeah that sounds about right. So with internet, new zealand, we would have been a little short of $1B, but the game would have been on a station that would have treated it right, played it all the time, all around the country, live and in HD.
You don't know that it would be better. Like anything there would have been little clauses for this and that. Who knows what the outcome would actually be.

At the end of the agreement, Nine and Fox still have the first and last rights on the next deal.

Read my last post, tell me what you think of the opinion.
Your opinion is still based on money rather than the game.
It also smells like "you have to lose one to gain one"
We have to put up with 5 years of more of the same horrible shit just so in 5 years time we MAY and i cant emphasis this enough. We MAY get a better deal for the fans.
Channel 10 offered 800mill and wanted to give 4 LIVE FTA games a week, and we knocked that back for 1 LIVE fta game a week, a fixed schedule which still helps the rich get richer and the idea that first/last bid rights mean something.

We just got f**ked and alot of people seem to be OKAY with that cause we got 1 billion.
I feel like somebody shot the puppy i was gonna get for christmas and instead i get $100.

So how much is Foxtel going to be a month then? I was going to buy it next year if it was still $50/month for the NRL, but anymore than that and it becomes prohibitively expensive.

they would on sell them, not the NRL

Still seems like a lot of negotiating room considering that 4 matches would still be up for grabs, foxtel would be desperate to secure those, and rep footy could still be negotiated.

Makes the offer that was accepted seem shithouse for fans and a fair bit short financially.

Compared to Gallop?

In a tougher economic climate he got twice the money, fixed schedule, removed the clause for first/last and all for 1 less year on the contract.
I dare say I could have landed this deal, Grant's done f**k all, we've got the same old shitty deal, just more money. I'm sure he got a healthy bonus out of it too

It's called collusion people. Collusion. Channel 9 and foxtel have got together and done a deal and the fans can get stuffed. One live game, Brisbane every other Friday night. Gould and Warren for 5 more years. Warren will be 75, he won't be able to even see the field by then let alone call the game. Channel 10 offered 4 live games for 800 mil. I was hoping for someting different.

you are seriosly dumb

ten would have got all 8 and on sold 4

for $200 million less

would there have been a 20 round fixed schedule?

and 9 and Fox would have had first and last rights next time meaning no bidding war

For f**ks sake. Its first/last Bid rights.
The NRL could still say "no we prefer what X is offering".
$40m per season. 16 clubs - $2.5m per season each club... That is more than half the current salary cap.
Oh wow. The Clubs might get 2.5 Million.
What does that mean for the fans? Nothing.

We get it, Its $200 million less.
We dont care. We put more weight on 3 more LIVE FTA games than $200 million. You dont. You care about money. We get it already.

you do realise that's for $200 million less?

better FTA coverage = yes

less money for clubs and development = yes

9 and Fox retain first and last rights = yes
Yes I do, thats for $200m less in direct revenue.

However, it would have been a SHITLOAD more in shirt and ground sponsorship for the clubs, who would have been on TVs through the whole country, who would be able to sell their sponsorships as genuinely national brands. This is millions per club per year.

And for the growth of the game its incalculable. It means that anyone, %100 of households, any casual observer, anyone interested, can turn on and watch the game 4 days a week as it can best be shown, in HD, and in primetime.

All this with a big increase in the amount of money, just not quite as big as we might have hoped.

It was a tradeoff, and we traded very poorly.

This is seriously f**ked.

And you can't see any negotiating room with 4 games and possibly rep footy including origin to be on-sold. Put a value on that and see if you couldn't think of a way to find a way to twist someones arm to get closer to what you want.

Or don't. Just be seriosly dumb.

It might mean all clubs are still around and actually making profits for yaers to come. that would mean plenty to most fans.

If the first-and-last BS has really been extinguished then maybe this sort of thing wont happen next time around.

Not quite true in regards to Nothing.

2.5 million per club every year could be the difference between going under / just hanging on.

But even then, that's not really anything to get pumped up about from an all round fans point of view.
