TV rights thread part 4

John Grant as part of his opening statement heavily emphasised the removal of News from the first and last rights.... people are understating the huge positive effect this is going to have in further negotiations.

There's a reason why News were so adamant to include this in the Super League peace deal and the formation of the commission.

Yep.

It's a relief to get rid of it.

A 1.5 billion dollar deal possibly had we retained it.

But I'm glad it's gone.

Almost would have been worth it to see the reaction of fumble-ball fans.....almost

Hence The Sloth's persistent meltdown over Grant?

All this extra money will do is keep a float the shit Sydney teams that are broke and can't get a decent amount of people to see games.

Maybe that's part of the plan.

Less live games means more TV revenue & more people through the turnstiles.

Method in their madness??

looks like the only reason ch9 won the fta deal is because of foxtel. foxtel didnt want to lost Saturday and Monday night footy to ch10 so they partnerd with ch9. FFS if only ch10 and ch7 join together :(

If this $1.5b figure is to be believed (I for one don't believe it), then we only would be talking about Fox's F&L rights, because at that figure, surely the Nine bid would have to have been beaten by the 20% that would have lost them their F&L rights, right?

And depending on how Fox's F&L rights deal is worded, I'm still not sure what value it would have going forward anyway given the their business model is dying, with IPTV the way of the future. If IPTV wasn't part of their F&L contract, then they haven't given up much at all as I see it.

1.5 may or may not be exact but to get rid of f&l definately would have cost some zeros

even now the service is quite good on t-box, I think it may differ though without a telstra bundle

$300 for the box, 9.95 for basics package (19.95 with no bundle), $10 for sports.

Hopefully all 5 foxtel matches are played live... imo they might create another channel on the sports package (perhaps Fox Sports Play 2) and jack the sports price up to $15-20.

If they put it on the t-box I assume it might be seperate like the afl which is $20 a month on top of the basic and sports package.

Not too sure considering we won't have an equivalent exclusive channel like Fox Footy on Foxtel...

If we do get an NRL channel on T-Box it will be a big win imo, great exposure for a fantastic, developing new medium even despite the additional charge it will most likely incur.
