Maybe Warburton is gagged by the same confidentiality agreements you referred to yesterday.

and how about answering the question

and does anyone seriously believe they would agree to a deal that offered less money and fewer games on FTA?

Is there any reason 9 can't simulcast both Friday night games live if they wanted to?

You're missing a chromosome if you think Tens offer was for only 4 games a week. They were pretty clear early on they were going for the lot.

I was a little pissed over FTA coverage initally but loving the deal after having a day to to think on it. It cannot be undersated how huge it is for us to more then double the money coming into the game and on top of it we get rid of the F&LRs.

.

john grant stated very early in the piece that this tv rights deal was all about setting the nrl up for the next deal. they got the money they wanted so now they can consolidate the competition so it will be in the best possible shape 5 years down the track. they also have 5 years to get their expansion teams in place so they can do it at the right pace and not rush it.

first and last rights are gone so in 5 years time the nrl will be sitting pretty in regards to the offers they will get.

not rush expansion? The bids have been working on it for over 3 years already, 5 years if we had come in 2015, 9 years by the time we may get in! Hardly would call it a rush job!!

For those below who have clarified to Bunniesman and co that the 10 deal was for all 8 games, I'd also like to add that it also included all online and mobile rights as well. Those rights are yet to be fully added to the 9/Fox total. The difference very well may have been over $200 million.

Kim Williams thought that he was protecting subscribers by keeping the status quo and not selling out Saturdays & Monday. In the process he screwed over Lachlan Murdoch's plans for 10. This is the story that the newspapers haven't fully explored yet.

Something just doesn't add up if that's the case, 4 games + the digital rights for $800 million makes more sense on reflection than $800 million for everything. Nine and Fox put a combined bid in of around $850 million before the rights even went to open tender, Ten didn't stand a chance if the $800 million for everything is correct.

Interesting that Roy said the deal could have been as high as $1.5 billion if the end of first and last rights wasn't included.

I must give Roy a pat on the back for exposing the patheticness of the last TV deal in his articles over the last couple of years.

A lot of the stuff he exposed helped with RL finally getting its true worth.

he also says Fox pretty much scuttled Ten's bid because of them wanting to show Saturday and Monday night footy
