Is anyone concerned about the night time Grand Final and think it should have been left as a 5pm kick off? If we ever want to get kids involved, then showing the GF at a decent time should be a priority as these kids are our future players and fans. The same thought about expansion if that ever happens to go to a second NZ team, kick off time over there will be 9:15pm and finishing around 11pm on a Sunday night and as far as I know they don't have a public holiday the next day.
The GF IMO should be in a more friendlier time for the younger kids. Just a thought

WTF has me going and following AFL got to do with it?
They got a great deal.
We didn't.
You seem to be having a hard time digesting that.

I think ours is great too, that's the problem, obviously. It's a few bucks under the AFL's cash alone and with the extras, it may even better it. It gives the game in Australia the cash to be a major force, not just pretend to be one like we've been doing because we've been f**ked over in the rights previously. I could give two f**ks about the times and who's on when, I see them all because I have Foxtel IQ and HD and when I get back from a game, I can watch the replay immediately.

Is that your problem, can't afford Foxtel?

Would you like me to put a bowl outside your local Salvos for donations?

oh and if you choose to not pay for foxtel then you are poor too, oh what a bunch of idiots, I would rather pay for my sons private education than to pay for foxtel, I am only interested in one game a week and thats my team, any other game I am not interested in so why fork out the dollars to pay for games I dont watch, maybe if they had a 1 game a week package I might subscribe, unlike some others I actually have a life and don't spend all my weekend in front of the box wasting it watching sports

If you don't spend all weekend in front of the tv, you obviously don't care about how many games are shown live.

If you only care about your team, buy a season ticket and go to every home game.

With the policy of retaining 1 game live per week on FTA will ensure crowds will still keep going to games as opposed to watching the games on the box

You do realise the nrl received more per minute of game time than the afl don't you?

you can't just look at the lump sum. The afl have more games which last longer than league games.

Apart from the fact channel 9 retained the rights(for the fans) the nrl got a great deal.

Hopefully the extra $$$ can go towards making the matchday experiences better for the casual fans too. Next 5 years could be a good oppurtunity to continue to build a strong culture of attending games, because currently there are a lot of people that would like to see more effort into the game-day entertainment.

Anyone know the reason they have cut down on the fireworks in recent years? I'd assume its because they are harder to access these days with laws etc, and they fact the fire machines are probably seen as a more environmentally friendly option, but there are few better ways to excite the crowd then a simple firework display as the teams run out.

But you just have to look at the NFL to see it can be done without fireworks. Although they usually have a cast of 1000's in their pre-game entertainment. Being an outdoor sport, it'd be hard to replicate what basketball codes can do, but there would be a few ideas there too.

:lol: some people have no idea. Having the same coverage nationwide for 5 years will help grow the game. Puts us in a better position next time around. Those against the deal.

Fox wanted what they have now. Nothing less. 7-10 by themself was less then we got. They should of combined and shared. Then all on FTA. it didn't happen.

No guarantee fox would of taken the rest. I want more live FTA of course. I also wanted national coverage we got it. Fixed schedule we got.

Wow they got an AFL channel that plays repeats. We got 2 hours nightly programs on FTA. If that's highlights we see more footy then now. I fail to see how it's a bad deal.

See you started off explaining your opinion well, and that's good discussion.
But then you ended it by trying to attack my socio economic status, of which you have no idea.

This deal isn't about me, it isn't about you.
It's about joe citizen that can't afford foxtel.
Its about joe and Jill and their 3 kids that wanted more daytime games so they could go as a family.
It's about any club wanting more sponsorship - that can't get it cos certain teams monopolize FTA games.

The cash injection is great, but the fact is it's the same tv deal that we have now - shite.
A little less cash for more tv exposure would've been better.

The AFL negotiated a kickass deal, why couldn't we??
