TV rights thread part 4

What I obviously meant was your club stands to gain the most out of this deal when considering your parlous financial state, through the imminent increase in club grants and if that isn't adequate enough through vehicles like the newly created future fund also.

Despite all of this, you and your fellow supporters continue to heavily criticise the deal.

Shut up and be grateful as what has just been created for the game will ultimately secure your clubs future.

I'll be criticizing it again when 9 announce the scheduling for the first 20 weeks and we see the sharks getting arsefugged again regardless of where we finish this year. Is that ok?

And that is another reason why this tv deal is a slap in the face to rugby league fans.
The ARLC bent over and grabbed both cheeks as they asked for a billion dollars.

"We're in discussions now in terms of those media rights, we're talking to range of parties and we're also considering whether or not the game should exploit these rights on it's own rather than granting them to a third party.

Selling them to a third party is hopeless, someone like Telstra will just make it exclusive to their network. Needs to be available to everyone.

Possibility for the 9th game live stream? Would be a good way to dip its toes into controlling its own content from 2018 onwards.

I suggest you have a look at the FTA coverage they got in 2009.

Early on they were ok. 5 weeks was different. You could change if a team struggled. 20 weeks you have more scope to play every team. I wanted Monday night footy on FTA as well.

It's sold for market value and no changes. You get the highlight package aswell. As the same as now. The cap will pretty much be covered by the grant. If entry was cheaper TV wouldn't matter. 1 team has already dropped the prices alot.

That would stick to the big gumby there is no value in a 9th game.

TV as it stands is a dying commodity. In 10 year the industry will have evolved, and the big thinkers at 9 haven't really started to plan their long term out too well from what I can see. If the up-take on online/streaming content is as rapid as other new technologies, this TV contract could be the death of nine. At least very damaging. They haven't done themselves any favours in the community. Fans hate them, they hate delayed and they dislike their commentary teams as a whole.

I think the mobile content for the AFL was sold far too cheap now. Think about this... $300 per year package all games and including free club membership to the club of your choice. 10 000 sales per annum and you have $150m. Before factoring in advertising and other marketing opportunities.

I read it as local streaming on mobile devices only but hopefully it includes PCs, I guess it will depend on the definition of IPTV. Hopefully the stream isnt as crappy as it is now so you can just buy a tablet with HDMI out to watch it on the TV.

I hope it works for any Internet connection, my TV can connect to my router and you better believe Ill be watching it through that if its any internet connection this service works with.

So the fans from the club who arguably stand to receive the greatest benefit from the deal are also its biggest critics.

lol.

Not all of us are selfish pricks, we want a fair go for everyone for the good of the game.

Call me a socialist but the scheduling should have an equal amount of air time for every club.

I'm overseas so I do this today.

They would want to use some of the cash improve the quality of the stream, I am on awesome speed internet here and the quality is still shitty. Plus some days the games don't even start or dissapear from the listing just before the start. I've (legally) missed two games because of that this season.

They should definitely look at using Veetle, best quality live streaming I've ever seen.

I can't wait to see all the noobs who are saying how great this deal is for Rugby League complaining about the Broncos playing every Friday night.

See you started off explaining your opinion well, and that's good discussion.
But then you ended it by trying to attack my socio economic status, of which you have no idea.

This deal isn't about me, it isn't about you.
It's about joe citizen that can't afford foxtel.
Its about joe and Jill and their 3 kids that wanted more daytime games so they could go as a family.
It's about any club wanting more sponsorship - that can't get it cos certain teams monopolize FTA games.

The cash injection is great, but the fact is it's the same tv deal that we have now - shite.
A little less cash for more tv exposure would've been better.

The AFL negotiated a kickass deal, why couldn't we??

You have nailed it.

Why can't you wait? That would imply that the Broncos will be on every Friday night (likely), the very thing you are complaining about yourself.
