Why can't you wait? That would imply that the Broncos will be on every Friday night (likely), the very thing you are complaining about yourself.

Because it will be an unfair advantage to the Broncos but that is ok because this tv deal is great and channel 9 will do a sensational job with their coverage.

I can't wait to see all the noobs who are saying how great this deal is for Rugby League complaining about the Broncos playing every Friday night.

I am one of those.
I hate the Broncos and live in Brisbane.
But I can live with this deal because it is exactly what the game needs at the moment.
It may not have been the deal I dearly wanted in terms of better coverage, but I have no doubt the next deal in five years will give me what I want. No doubt what so ever.

So yeah, I can look past the disappointing aspects of this deal because the positives that will come from this deal, in time, will outweigh the negatives.

well I did that for 20 years, my mum and then my two kids so 4 season tickets for at least 10 of those years, but moved to Brisbane now so cant get to home games, and I tell you something for nothing, if you're not a broncos supporter up here it f**king sucks, all you get is broncos this broncos that, f**k even the local freeway got changed to f**king Darren Lockyer way only days after he retired, so sick of f**king broncos

Don't forget the Darren Lockyer Bundy Rum that was released in May this year to commemorate his retirement, yet it has been aged for 6 years. methinks they put some stickers on a batch and voila Derpy QLDERS will buy their "Darren Lockyer rum".

well said, I'm in the same boat as you a Parra fan living in Brisbane. The deal isn't perfect but money wise it finally
Puts us on an even keel with our biggest competitor AFL.

For those saying that the afl got a better deal because of the tv coverage, please keep in mind that it has had a dramatic effect on the crowds for 2012.

In 2007(the first year of their last deal), the average crowds were 38113.
In 2012(the first year of their new deal), the average crowds are 31838.

Yes this includes the new teams which are not big crowd pullers, but it is a drop of nearly 20% which would be alarming to any sporting code.

If we can keep crowds at around the 17k-18k mark and have all this extra revenue our players, clubs and more importantly junior development will all benefit in the long term.

As fans we need to see the bigger picture and put our self interests aside for the short term.

So the fans from the club who arguably stand to receive the greatest benefit from the deal are also its biggest critics.

lol.

I for 1 think the deal is great for my club (sharks) & if, heaven-forbid, the development doesn't get approved, we still have a chance of survival.

As much as I hate Brisbane (& I feel for non-Broncos supporters in Qld), if if wasn't for successful / popular teams like Brisbane, the deal might have been 20 or 30% less for the same coverage times.

I will complain about seeing Brisbane most Friday nights but the deal is about compromise & I'm happy to put up with Brisbane (i watch both games friday night) so I still have my Sharks.

See you started off explaining your opinion well, and that's good discussion.

Is it..

But then you ended it by trying to attack my socio economic status, of which you have no idea.

No, I asked a relvant question and offered assistance if the answer was that you didn't have Foxtel, you seeing it as an attack is your problem.

This deal isn't about me, it isn't about you.

No kidding.

It's about joe citizen that can't afford foxtel.

Why is it?

It's more about ensuring that the game survives and thrives and that's exactly what it will do. The posturing from people like you and moffo is just that, posturing. You dont' speak on behalf of everyone who doesn't own Foxtel so don't pretend that you do.

Its about joe and Jill and their 3 kids that wanted more daytime games so they could go as a family.

I see, so you're advocating two timeslots, 3pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday. The problem with that, of course, is that more people watch TV at night than during the day and TV is where the $'s come from. We could go to the times you want, but that would end up with Rugby League regressing to what club Rugby Union is now.

Pass.

It's not 1978 any more.

It's about any club wanting more sponsorship - that can't get it cos certain teams monopolize FTA games.

Your club has one of the smaller fanbases, whose fault is that?

Of course the clubs with bigger fanbases are going to monopolise the best slots on TV, that's the idea as far as the broadcaster goes, to maximise the audience..just in case you didnt know..

The cash injection is great, but the fact is it's the same tv deal that we have now - shite.

It's not perfect, but it will never be perfect. If the deal was for 8 live games per week to everyone in the universe, Moffo and others would whinge.

A little less cash for more tv exposure would've been better.

FMD.

1/5 of a billion dollars over 5 years is a little?

In what reality?

The AFL negotiated a kickass deal, why couldn't we??

We did, it just isn't their deal....

I have a feeling the streaming service Mattiske is talking about would only show matches when they are on T.V I highly doubt we would be able to watch the delayed games live.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I even think in America with the Gamepass for the NBA you can only watch games live depending on where you live.

I hope I'm wrong but I just couldn't see nine and fox signing off on that unless they are confident that the vast majority of people wouldn't use IPTV over T.V

Just had it confirmed that channel 9 still pick the games

They just do it further in advance

f**kin awesome

the games they pick for way down the track could be fizzers

they won't know what the best choice game for round 20 will be at the start of the season

There are local blackouts for NBA.tv, so for example in LA the Lakers games will be blacked out to protect local TV deals. Not sure if it's available after though.

When picking games 20 rounds in advance they're more likely to spread it around a little more though.

It's a big danger for them if they mostly go with the broncos in QLD and say the tigers/dragons in Sydney and they have crap years.

Even though I think it would be better if they didn't pick them , I think we'll see a better spread than we currently get.

The big difference for us is we have 9 teams in one market.

It's going to be much harder for them to come up with a solution if they want to black out Sydney every time a Sydney team plays.
