They got to keep Saturday and Monday as exclusive.
yes but that isn't going to drive any new subscriptions. If you was fussed about seeing them you would already be a subscriber.
They might not lose any subscribers with this deal but they aren't going to pick any new ones up and they are paying double what they did last time.
Bodes well for the next deal I guess as there is still a lot of value add for Fox available on top of this deal.
Did Wilson lose her shit on Offsiders over the tv deal?? I just turned it on.
The belief seemed to be the 10 wanted a 5.30pm kick-off for their Sunday FTA game.

Offsiders were very happy for the NRL and it was a great discussion. Don't let that get in the way of a good story though....
7 and 10 ain't bidding.
Yep. It's very disappointing that Fox abandoned them but it is what it is.
did he talk about it?Mattiske will be taking open questions on Sky Sports Radio this morning, I've asked for him to expand on what the plans are for the online rights, specifically whether it means the option of providing live streams into local markets such as those provided to overseas markets, let's see what he says.
did he talk about it?
What really surprises me about the deal is how much Foxsports have payed for the same coverage. The new deal is not going to drive any subscription increase for them so no extra income coming there way from the deal. I'm still struggling to see what is in it for them, with no extra content it offers nothing more than they had before and is hardly going to get RL fans excited about subscribing to Foxsports. Maybe they think they have maxed out RL viewers as subscribers?
Maybe they are just hoping Ch9's coverage being so poor is going to drive people to Fox?

I would have expected them to have gone for every game live and a 9th exclusive game on Sunday evening which would have probably convinced a lot more fans to sign up. Maybe they are just hoping Ch9's coverage being so poor is going to drive people to Fox?
Yeah FFS get this shit out of the game...
also watched 13 minutes of footy on nien! over the ads Gyngel can eat a dick i am boycotting his channel...
watching live at the moment...with no ads:lol: I boycotted Nine's Sunday coverage after watching the game live last week. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if next year Gyngell gets the message as more and more ppl either watch it live by other means or completely snob Ch9 and out of pressure, starts broadcasting the Sunday match live.
I'm loving hearing about Rab's doctor who has a simular name to Mullaney. Makes me excited to watch footy.
I was thinking the same thing when I heard that. And then Gus goes on about how Rabs has had many doctors over the years and must've worn all of them out:roll:
....only in the NRL and cricket do the broadcasters (e.g. Ch9) allow the commentators to talk about completely inane crap like that during the telecast that has nothing to do with the game. No coincidence that the common denominator between the NRL and cricket commentary is Ch9. You'd never hear or see anything like that in the AFL, Rugby Union, Soccer, or American sports.
Although the tv deal next year will be massive, the big winners in it are only the players who are already amongst the highest paid as they will simply get most of that excess money. The biggest losers though are the fans and one of the main reasons is that we will be subjected to more of Ch9's tripe over the next 5 years.
So, with this week's deal, Packer jnr receives $2 billion for an outlay that is probably 5 per cent of News's spending on the code, other than Packer's sponsoring the Melbourne Storm for $1 million through his ownership of Crown Casino.
And News? It has released the code of its hold over broadcasting rights, which was extended to 2027 as a condition of its exit from the NRL.
It was scheduled to surrender its half-ownership of the NRL in 2018 and entitled to receive $8 million a year over the next six years.
Now, it has released the code of all rights, declined $50 million of entitlements and will continue to fund the Storm for probably $4 million a year, although its other team, the Broncos, makes a $2 million profit.
woeful overage todayI just posted this in the Souffs/Eels gameday thread and thought I'd post this here as well:
I'm not sure if this has been posted yet.

Massive, massive outcome for the game.
