With all of the interest why were exclusive rights sold as a block anyway?

How about an auction for each timeslot + an auction for each rep game. Would be interesting to see what Origin 3 or the GF would be worth on it's own.

Maybe that was part of the reason to get rid of first/last rights. Plus if you split it up now it allows Nine and Fox to say certain timeslots (eg Friday second match deathslot) don't add significant value and underpay for them compared to the overall price.

Fox screwed up Ten's bid although being free from News Ltd now is great

Ten should have bought all 8 games and forced Fox to pay up

If only TEN knew of FOX desperation to retain NRL in order for NEWS to buy its' share.

TEN could of offered $1billion then held FOX over a barrel and still made money on the NRL.

The game needs money no doubts and they have deemed it (with the F&L rights issue) as the most important thing. no problems with that even though it screws fans that want to watch the game on TV but please don't buy into this journos delusion that the game couldn't have gone forward on $800mill with decent FTA coverage.

They also get every cent of that back and then some. Don't go acting like the networks are all of a sudden doing us a favor for finally paying what the game is worth after having screwed us over for year. They're still screwing us over now, they're just paying more for the privilege.
