I find it hard to believe that ten would have paid 800m for 4 live games, how on earth could they have made money on that??? 7 paid 450m for 4 live AFL games, I just dont understand... I think the reporting is wrong...

The reporting is indeed wrong.

That's pretty amazing.

Now that I'm not stuck behind the Great Firewall of China I'm probably going to invest in a streaming subscription, especially if the money goes straight into the games coffers.

I remember trying to buy a game pass last year and being told that I couldn't, despite the fact Cable TV is technically illegal in China and there's no way CCTV was going to have NRL on...

Maybe I am stuck there then.

I listen to a lot more footy on the radio than I see on TV.

Same for cricket in summer. More radio by far.

Be interesting to see if they offer a two tier subscription option,
1 all your teams games
2 every game

Still not convinced they can make as much as telstra paid for afl rights. Maybe they can sell mobile rights plus non exclusive Internet rights to Telstra for their tv box and still have their own Internet subscription service?

The cricket, I can FULLY understand if you don't wanna put up with the tripe dished out by Nickelarse et al. on Ch9. I don't like ABC tv for many reasons, but the ABC radio commentary in both cricket and RL puts those overpaid hacks at 9 to shame.

interesting to see what restrictions are on a rugby league season pass

eg - this from the NBA website :

What are Black outs?
All nationally televised games will always be blacked out. TNT/NBAtv/ESPN/ABC, etc? have the exclusive rights to those games. Additionally, games broadcast in your local area are blacked out as well. Please click on the following link for more details: http://leaguepasssupport.nba.com/link/portal/7801/7801/Article/143/-What-are-blackouts

what?? thats crap..

If you have NBA.tv in australia.. you shouldnt get any blackouts hey?

so.. in other words.. international subs get no blackouts right?

The stoush over TV Now is threatening to erupt while a deal for rights to stream NRL matches over mobiles and tablets using a cellular connection remains unsigned.

Telstra is expected to secure the rights but sources close to the negotiations insist that multiple parties (such as Google and Sportal) and multiple options for delivery of matches remain in the mix.

Optus is not interested but will be keeping a close eye on proceedings.
