Im crazy because i think the game shouldnt be whored out for not even top dollar.
The AFL has more say in what they do than the NRL does in what they do.
This is a f**king outrage. Yet some of you are sitting in the corner going "A BILLION DOLLARS".
It would be like during the French Revolution that when offered cake from marie antoinette, they took the cake and didnt care about the reasons they went to revolution in the first place....because they have f**king cake now.

$925M + 100M Contra from 9 and Fox Sports, and probably
$150M from Telstra for interwebs (whats gonna happen with naming rights? How much content will be online? What sort?)
$200M from Sky for NZ rights... so

$1.275B over 5 years in cash, $255M a year, plus $20M in contra advertising each year. (More than the 18 team AFL, because of NZ market and Origin). Doc, you really knew your stuff predicting $1.3-1.4B.

That doesn't take into account expansion. Would that 9th game be on free to air? Will it happen before the end of the deal?
-----

That should be more than enough to fund everything the game wants over the next 5 years - expansion, juniors, increasing grant, increase cap, increase rep payments, marketing, et cetera. Hopefully the NZRL gets paid a fair share too.
-----

I wonder if the ARLC agreed to the terms offered because of 9's first and last rights - 9 went really hard early, and by just accepting terms like what we already have, they avoided any legal conflict. Easier to just let it slide now and take the cash, as it won't happen again...

Good deal in terms of cash (probably better than the AFL's when its all settled), no real improvement in terms of broadcast though.

EDIT- just noticed we got out of all First and Last rights agreements. Thats not a bad get from News Ltd. I'm guessing the price of this was the concessions to the Storm, and the fox sports Ipad stuff they were talking about.

THAT is the best that can be done with what we have. When we have more revenue streams we will have more strength at the negotiating table. Until then be happy with what we got.

Did anyone seriously think that Nine/Fox were not going to get the rights again?? They had last rights anyway so they only had to match any other offer and it was theirs. I wonder if this deal has the same clause?

Either way, everyone can whinge but seriously, our game is worth 1000 million dollars !! Awesome result considering some of the things our game has endured over the years.

Fantastic...

Now that we got that settled does anyone else here think the Four Nations money should be going to the RLIF and not the ARLC (assuming it doesn't already)?

Move the Sunday arvo game to 4pm instead of 3pm and it is live anyway... 1 hour change and it becomes a live game.

In a perfect world that'd be the best possible scenario and would keep everyone but those who run the game happy, Channel 9. A live game doesn't give them the chance to squeeze in a set of ads every 5 minutes which means their advertising revenue shrinks. Will never happen unfortunately.

Have you provided a dollar value that you would be willing to accept what you wanted in a broadcast deal yet? In an earlier post you said what you wanted but not the dollars just less money

I heard somewhere that Fox Sports will be telecasting Toyota Cup and NSW Cup games on the weekend. Even schoolboy footy.

That Telstra figure is hard to judge because of this whole tablet arrangement and what value online providers will see going up against that competition. Also as you've said, the naming rights money may or may not be included.

As for Sky, I doubt it will be that much. At a guess maybe $100m some of which may be contra.

It will get to around $1.15b as a bare minimum which is what had been suggested when the new poll was made.

I'm spewing only 2 out of 8 games are delayed and full of ads. Needs more.:sarcasm:

Good deal, cash is king. Fox sports do it way better than channel 9 anyway.

FMD some people love a whinge.

Its hard not to.

Bullshit. Its only the best that could be done if you put money over everything else that our game has to offer and even then ITS NOT THE BEST.
Why not scrap the fixed scheduling all together so we can get another 5 million since we are selling everything off for so little.
George.. its a billion dollars...
Yes. A billion dollars to keep the status quo and the game safe for all the dinosaur behind closed doors.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. The NRL have gained nothing but more money. So shows how much they must have ventured in contract discussions.

Im all worn out now. Some people just hold money way too highly and are willing to sell out for anything and to f**k over the game so the rich can get richer.
Youre all fooling yourself if you think for one second the NRL will invest this money wisely. come 2018 we are going to have the same shit sandwhich for 1.5 billion and im sure we will have the same discussion there.
Enjoy the cake.

As i said in the other thread. 800-850million for what i said in the other thread would have been a great victory for mine.
This is a failure on all levels except money.
