Remember that the ARLC is tasked with administering the game of rugby league, not just the NRL. A larger cash component will allow for greater investment into the game as a whole as opposed to the viewing experience of a single competition.
I spent from 1995-2009 either listening to Raiders games on the radio or (towards the end) watching games at the pub, I invested in fox because I know that a team such as mine will never get the share of games that a team like the Broncos would. With new media becoming a reality, its easier to watch a game than it ever has been.
If spent wisely, rugby league in Australia/New Zealand has a golden opportunity to free itself of its oppressors and work its way towards insurmountable popularity. Even without Fox I would have copped the hit for the greater good of the game.
