TWO new Brisbane teams

I don't think there's enough people or money in FNQ to base a team in Cairns, especially when there's already one a couple of hours away in Townsville.

It would make more sense for the Cowboys to take 2 or 3 of their 12 home games to Cairns when the new rectangular stadium is built for the Olympics.

I really wish we would use the name North Queensland Marlins. There's so much history tied up with the Marlins and it's a native species.

The problem with moving regular season games to Cairns is you f$&@ over all the Cowboys fans that live to the south of Townsville. Fans from Mackay travel 4 hours each way, you're now making them travel 8 hours each way. The reason why Tvl "works" is because of its geographical location, it's central.

Taking the trial games to Cairns and Mackay is enough for mine. And if other teams want to take home games against us to Cairns because we don't draw in Sydney, then good luck to them. Barlow Park can barely hold 13-14k jam packed, if we are averaging 16-17k in Tvl we are losing money moving games there (we would be anyways due to the lack of corporate facilities up there compared to QCB).

If cairns get an upgrade to Barlow Park than there might be a change in mindset.

HAs there ever been comment on what % of Cowboys fans travel far and wide to games? Im imagining it would be small but I might be worng? If it is less than 10% say then moving a game or two to Cairns isnt such a big deal. End of day its about cowboys increasing their memebrship base in two locations. Be nice if a Sydney club with crap crowds when they play the Cowboys could be enticed to take a game there against them if and when the new stadium gets finished. Agree unless it can hold 20k NRl shouldnt be plyed at any stadium imo.

Melbourne Storm have a large supporter base in SEQ, courtesy of their success and the Brisbane market being underserved since 1987. It's been almost 20 years since Melbourne last missed the top 8, so it's no wonder they rate well. People love to watch a winner. Especially up here.

Titans have struggled throughout their existence and are a regional team. They don't have a large following like the Cowboys and Storm as they didn't come into the competition until 2007 and have not generated a strong rivalry with any other club, largely due to lack of on field results, but they are building and will get stronger. They'll never be the Broncos as they're not from Brisbane.

I hope Perth get a team as it's ridiculous that a beautiful city of 2 million is unrepresented.

They keep buying our players I will go flog the kents myself

from memory (very hazy) there was an article done a while back about it and I believe it was on average about 30-35% of the crowd travel more than an hour each way. Tvl has Ingham, Charters Towers and the Burdekin all about an hour away, these towns top up Townsville's 190k population by about another 30k and they really help getting a crowd to the games as there's not much else to do other than fish, drink and fight........ and maybe another thing that starts with F.......

Move a game to Cairns and you've shit on these as well (and hour each way trip from say Ayr, now turns into a 5 hour each way trip). Again, this is why Tvl works so well because it's centrally located, you physically swap Cairns and Tvl cities geographically around and Cairns would have the Cowboys full time.

Why wouldnt the Broncs just concentrate on this South region now given Dolphins are going to be going hard at the North Brisbane region? Perth is adequately covered by two massive AFL clubs, why cant Brisbane be the same and we have two massive NRL clubs focussing north and south? Titans can pick up the SE corner as they need a lot more fans!

Is there any reason you couldnt now divide Brisbane up to something like this? View attachment 55564
The northern half of Logan is a Broncos stronghold with arguably more support for the Cowboys than Titans. It's where I live. Easts Tigers have clubs in Rochedale South and Springwood.

The southern suburbs of Logan has a large supporter base for the Titans and is closer to Robina Stadium than Lang Park, so their territory can be designated to the Titans.

Could and should certainly work as long as the Broncos are as active in the West as they are in Brisbane. Hopefully the Dolphins' presence puts a stop to some of their laziness and complacency

It would need some sort of agreement between the three clubs and the grassroots in each region I suppose. There in lies the problem in RL land lol. No doubt Jets and Easts will desperately cling to their territories in the hope of being club 18 meaning areas will go unconnected to NRL.

So if you was to divvy Brisbane region up into three regions with Dolphins mainly North, Broncos mainly central and South and Titans SE corner which Intrust cup teams would partner with who? How does this differ to current feeder club agreements? Whilst Wynum isnt exactly SE to get some balance it might make more sense for them to partner with Titans? Be interesting to see what Storm do if SC jump ship to Dolphins?

Dolphins
Redcliffe
Norths
Sunshine Coast

Broncos
Jets
Tigers
Souths Logan

Titans
Burleigh
Tweed Seagulls
Wynum

then Cowboys
Cutters
Blackhawks
Pride
Capras

that just leaves Hunters as stand alone

@Get Rid of The Donkeys has a theory that Easts may look to buy out the Broncos in the future which may take care of that issue (sorry if I'm crediting the wrong person for that idea). Not sure if News will ever want to sell but seems another way of Easts getting an NRL licence.

The above seems about right with Wynnum being the contentious one as you point out and Sunny Coast being an interesting development with Melbourne having an academy and netball club there (so they look like they are there for the long-run) and with the The Dolphins getting the NRL spot on the basis that they are the team for the area.

Easts Leagues were brought in to run Broncos Leagues a few years back. If Broncos had any sense they would give Easts 50% ownership of the football department and become even bigger on the southside of town.

This we can agree on!! In our continual quest to maximise tv revenue we have largely neglected engaging our customer base beyond getting them to sit on the settee and turn on their telly.
ive been watching college football, sht these are kids playing and have you seen their packed stadiums?
They put on a phenomenal show.
When a human who is use to going to NRL games goes to a college football game (even just an average one) the gameday experience is overwhelming and you can actually break out into tears randomly.

That would solve two massive issues:

1. It would remove News Ltd from owning a club which removes a massive conflict of interest

2. It would make the Broncos more strategic and get them to take on the AFL which seems to be the bigger problem, not the lack of a club

Wont happen, gives News a foot inside the NRL which they wont relinquish and makes a healthy profit which is all they care about. Its also a nice little play thing for the News Ltd execs to attend when in Brisbane.

I agree that it wouldn’t happen but it is nice to happen

The ninth game has to be sold to fta in the 2027 deal to realise it’s true value. Super Sunday with two fta games on at 4pm and 6pm. Ideally I’d like to see Saturday night on fta but news wont allow it and Vlandys is their man.
It won’t really matter where the club is tbh in that regard. Why nrl really has to take this opportunity it’s got to grow the game into a new market, not just play it safe again and add yet another heartland team.
The 6pm news is already the biggest rating show of the week. No way will there ever be a 6pm slot for FTA.

In that case make the Saturday night game FTA , screw fox. Fox can have the Sunday 6pm game as compensation. Friday 6pm seems to rate well for them so no reason Sunday wouldn't, maybe even better than Friday when people are still getting home from work.

I live right up the road from the Wynnum-Manly Leagues Club, if I am going to either Burleigh, Tweed Heads (that's not even in QLD, let alone Brisbane) or the Gold Coast.. it's gonna wanna be for a f**kin' good reason because it's about a 40 minute drive each way (with favourable traffic).

I would be genuinely stunned if Wynnum wasn't always going to be a Bronco's feeder club. Some of the all-time great Broncos have come through Wynnum.
