It's acceptable to kill in defence of yourself or another person. That's about it imo. In "theory" I could accept the death penalty as a way of protecting society but in practice a lot of innocent people seem to get executed in the states so life in prison works better.
If someone hurt my family I'd probably want them dead but I also don't think it would be right of me to act on it.
