I think you'd have better judgement than this Drew. You've never been preachy at all on here and don't strike me as a fundamentalist.

And as mentioned, there were other ministers who spoke who were fine, and quite genuine in their sadness over the loss. But this other person just went beyond that completely and it just made me pretty angry.

A number of Christians don't give thought to those who are not. It is not always intentional and not always meaning to be offensive, but it is alienating and often distressing for those watching.

Also, fundamentalist is a loose term. Depends on what your fundamentals are. I believe in a guy who got nailed to a cross for the sins of the world and rose again after three days to prove He was God and the hope of humankind for all those who have faith in what He did. That's my fundamental.

It appears the man who 'preached' had fundamentals in pure moralism, which is not the gospel.

I am sorry that his funeral was ruined by what you heard, though. That is not a pleasant thing to endure.

like i said, you'd have better judgement. I've been to other religious funerals where it was purely about the ceremony and the person and that's much better.

I just had to get this off my chest, ranting to your immediate family isn't particularly satisfying:lol:

funerals should be a celebration of the departeds life, not an opportunity for one of the living to take centre stage..

you never know when you're going to go, and i have already let friends and family know that when i go, i want there to be laughter, not tears..

if I'm cremated, i want the bloodhound gang's song 'fire, water, burn' playing as my coffin gets lowered..

or potentially johnny cash 'ring of fire'.. Or even (god forbid) nelly "it's getting hot in here"..

either way, i want people smiling when I'm gone.. In a nice way of course..

i don't want heart felt stories about how i was a nice guy, or did my bit for humanity..

i want the best anecdotes of my greatest stuff ups.. Times I've done stuff normal people wouldn't.. That's what would (hopefully) make me memorable... Not being a 'good bloke'.. The world has seen plenty of blokes much better than me..

and I'm being serious about the above..

I might have a trusted loved one hid my already cremated ashes and the funeral is a treasure hunt across a number of pubs with hidden clues at each to find my ashes to be scattered somewhere

i like that.. I may steal it for one of my ideas..

my other plan is if there is the technology, i want my remains shot into the sun...

and i want a team of boffins to calculate the exact moment my impact with the sun & subsequent burning up will translate to a moment of sunlight on earth..

and at that moment, i want everyone to have a drink in my honour..

even you, Drew.

would also love to have my remains be escorted by 100 odd soccer hooligans tooled up and setting pyro off on the way just to genuinely shock the shit out of whoever is observing and represent one of the more enjoyable periods of my life and the one thing ive truly been proud to be apart of and have a part in the making of.

Sad thought that considering many of the original crew are in their mid 40's and later now so I'll most likely be doing it myself a few times before my time is up.

if you can start and burn your own pyre, and do it numerous times, you may just be immortal..

and i thought it was just me...

there can be only one.

The only thing lower on the totem pole than a fundy is the young earth creationist :sarcasm:

I would also like people to be laughing at my funeral. I'd like whoever is doing the eulogy to just do this instead actually:

could also pinch one from billy Connelly and have really small font on my headstone that you need to walk up close to to read that actually says "you're standing on my balls"

Religion is obsolete. We don't need imaginary beings to explain the world around us anymore. People can believe what they want but ultimately I'd rather not live a fantasy

I'm not the religious type. But I don't agree with that point. Fact of the matter is, religion is not obsolete. Many people from a variety of religions, still choose to believe in their faith and have a religious background. That of all different ages, cultures and status.

I will say though, that number is decreasing and religion should hold no grounds in government and that churches (of all religions) should not be tax exempt. They rake in a fortune, I'm sure they can afford to pay even a subsidised amount of tax.

I've always felt funerals should not be a time for preaching.

This.

Its a celebration of some one's life, not their death

Agree 100%. The best (If I can even use such word) funeral I've been to was for a relative of mine (Who, unfortunately committed suicide), why? Because it focused on a reflection of his life, the character he was and the relationships he built. Not religion, not science or any other central dogma of belief. Just him.

would also love to have my remains be escorted by 100 odd soccer hooligans tooled up and setting pyro off on the way just to genuinely shock the shit out of whoever is observing and represent one of the more enjoyable periods of my life and the one thing ive truly been proud to be apart of and have a part in the making of.

 I laughed. If that's what you want.
